    1. [SHIVER-L] Isaac Shiver again!
    2. Hi again I have just got back from the LDS Family History Center and found some interesting information. We discussed once about Isaac (son of Jacob born 1844) and the fact that he had about four wives that we knew of. I couldn't place my gggrandmother, Jennie, with any of his wives. I found out that Jennie was a member of the church and had put some information in. She had that she was born December 15, 1865 to Isaac Shiver and her mother was Margaret Dorinda Cross. She was born in Bellville, Hamilton County, Florida. I would like to find some information on her mother's family if anyone can help me! Tracie Crawford

    1. [SHIVER-L] I'm sorry...
    2. Mary Kathryn Kozy
    3. Hey all! I know we were supposed to meet in the chat room tonight, and some of you may have (by force of habit), but I have been a bit under the weather for the last 2 weeks... If you have sent me e-mail and I have not responded, I apologize. I am having some sort of allergic reaction to something unknown, on top of having sick children (from whom I also got the stomach flu on Friday; been dealing with that this weekend) last week. Feel like I've been through the ringer! I'm sorry to send such a personal message to the entire list, but I know some of you may have been wondering if I dropped off the face of the earth! Not quite, but there have been days when a shuttle to the moon doesn't sound too bad! :-) I'm still feeling pretty rough, and am having to keep up my schedule here with my teaching, children, church and household as best I can, so please bear with me. I may be back underground for a bit, but once I knock this (or just figure out what's causing it!), I'll be back at it again! 1. [SHIVER-L] Misc Shiver Family Corresponce
    2. >From Dec, 1982, I received a letter from Mrs Cowart Sander, 509 Orange Street, Troy, AL 36081. "A number of people are also working on the Shiver history. Some are: Mrs Patricia Dewberry, Mrs Argie Ruth Bragg, Mrs O. B. Ward, Mrs Don R Honeycutt, Mr D. E. Cain. The 1833 census of Barbour County shows Abraham Shiver and Jacob Shiver. My great grandmother, Sarah Shiver (Sally) King was named in the will of Jacob Shiver, written 1 Dec, 1859, a day before his death in Coffee County. Sarah was born in Barbour County, about 1837 and her mother, name unknown, evidently died in child birth in 1839. I have various records that I will be happy to share with you including Creek Indian War records, also records showing Jacob Shiver, III, born 1815; son of Jacob Jr, born 1789; son of Jacob , Sr, born 1750, son of John Who left Rowan County, NC, and settled in Kershaw County, SC, before 1750. I received the last records from someone else and have no proof. Could it be that we both are descended from the Rev War John Shiver(s)? If so, I would certainly like proof? For years the DAR group here has asked me to join but even though I have material on two other lines, I need a little more proof. I have contacted serveral Shiver families in the Coffee, Pike and Dale county area but they know nothing beyond parents and grand parents. I can send addresses if you are interested in writing them. I hve been puzzled over the possible connection between the Isler and Shiver families. Georgia Sanders Hope this might contain something that is of some use or that it might jog someone's memory. Starting in Wash , DC in the mid 70's I have been on the Shiver trail, and spent much time tracking the Shivers family. Never did I suspect that there were so many of us and that anyone else was researching the same people! Thanks for the internet! If we could only prove who was the father of Ransom, Enoch, Fleming, Jacob, Manning, etc.

    3. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------6E8545E21344 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I think I'm as confused as the poor lady who wrote the letter; but, here goes. The Shiver branch she is refering to has to be family of Jacob (3), son of Jacob (2), son of John & Hannah. They were in Montgomery County, TX. Some of them stayed in TX, and some went back to AL around Dothan. (See attached descendancy chart -- I would appreciate any corrections and/or additions). The family of Jacob b abt 1815 and 2nd wife Catherine M. Cooper fits the names she mentions in the 1st paragraph, i.e. "Millie" (I have her as Permelean - census records her as Melia; "Duck" has to be Dorcus Emaline; "Kate" is Catherine Frances. I'm not sure who she means by "Elizabeth". The 1860 census lists Catherine at age 28 with Melia, 11; Samuel, 10; John, 7; Catherine F, & Mary A.L. 3; and a Joseph Hooper age 18 from GA. Jacob b abt 1815 is not listed in this census. I always thought he died, but maybe he up and went to Texas! "-) I have no reference to Thomas Jefferson Shiver in my data bank. I do have a John Thomas "Brack" b 6 Dec 1865 in Coffee Co AL; and his son, Francis Marion b 29 Feb 1886. GOT to members of the same family, perhaps nephews and/or cousins. --------------6E8545E21344 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; name="Shi" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline; filename="Shi" DESCENDANCY CHART FOR JACOB SHIVER - SHIVER.PAF 15 Feb 1999 Page 1 of 4 ============================================================ Name (Birth/Chr.-Death/Burial) Birth/Chr. 3. It looks to me like the Francis Marion she is talking about is Son of John T. and Dora Milstead and this Katherin Cooper would be the ? second wife of Jacob (at least she was his wife at the time of his death). Jacob was born abt 1815 in SC (son of Jacob and Sarah Ann). He died about 1893 in McCullah Alabama. I have his Will, some land, pension and Katherins pension records but nothing to reference going to Texas. I think when Shirley gets back on line, she may have some additional information. I am curious how Francis Marion ties into Jacob though. Wish I had more but hope this helps. 2. I received the following letter dated as above, and I am afraid that this lady was confused as to who I am: I am Francis Marion Shiver's wife, and there was a Jimmy SHiver that visited us in Texas in 1910 and on his way back to Coffee County visited his aunt Katherin Cooper Shivers. She married Jacob Shiver before the civil war and they raised 4 girls. Millie married (Billie or Buddie ) Norton. Duck married Barry Arnette. Kate married Samuel Strickland. Thomas Jefferson and Mollie Maloy raised 3 sons, Walter Ivan (?), born 5-28-1887; Francis Marion, born 5-22-1890. John Thomas, born 1-16-88. Francis Marion married Clara McKinley, 7-25-1909. (This is where she goes astray - was 87 or 88 and living in nursing home in Fairhope, AL at time this was written) If I am headed right, your grandfather was Samuel Shiver and your father was Gus Shiver an you had a brother, Johnny Shiver. They spent a night with Marion and me late in 1910. I am oldest one of family, and living in a nursing home. Here are misc notes from a second letter received in May, 1980. 1. [SHIVER-L] Shivers Buried in Howards Grove Baptist Cem, Cottonwood, AL
    2. Howards Grove is just north of Cottonwood, going toward Ashford on Co Rd 55, and is an old cem. My great grandfather Calvin Dykes was one of the early preachers there. It is free will Baptist. My grandfather William Preston Shiver, and grandmother, Miranda Shiver, are both buried there and can be fround under the line of Ransom Shiver - Anthony Shiver. Miranda's grandmother (her husband's mother,)Miranda Shiver, married Anthony Shiver.) My grandfather Tolar, Wesley, who was born in Worth Co, Ga, and his wife, are buried in same cem. I found an old plot, that had been fixed up in last few years and contains a Shiver family. Maybe we can plug some of these names in the Web Site. Plot in extreme SW corner of cem. Amanda W Shiver, wife of W.S. Lord. Born: 8-8-1831 and died 11-23-1895. Sarah Shiver, born 6-22-1858, died 1-15-88. J.L. Shiver, born 5-14-1921; died 11-12-1982. Elizabeth J Shiver, born 6-22-1892, died 10-14-1961. James M Shiver, , born 11-29-1882; died 12-3-1922. Elizabeth and James appear to have been the parents as their slabs are center of plot. Sherlie Jean Day, dau Mr and Mrs C.G. Hunt, born 2-9-1937; died 7-29-1939. Charles Raymond Herring, inf son M/M J.R. (or JV) Herring, born 2-10-40; died at birth. Erected by Mrs. J.V. "Willie" Herring. My dad didn't know any of these people, but said that his dad did and that they were related to the Lord familyof that area. There are still a few Shivers who live in Cottonwood, althought I don't know them.

    1. [SHIVER-L] New Member's Page
    2. Mary Kathryn Kozy
    3. Well everyone, Thanks for the great response to the request for descendancy information! I have posted the new page on the web site, and you can view it from off the front page. If you sent your information in the last day or two, it should be there. Some of you will notice that I included your information from previous submissions you sent, so check the site before you send me your data... For those of you who are not already listed, and haven't yet sent me your information, could you refresh my memory? I may have your data somewhere, but to give you an idea, I have 689 e-mails in my SHIVER folder alone! I will continue to try and sort through it for more people's data, but if you could just send me a new one, that would be great! Oh! And don't forget about the SHIVER Chat on Sunday evening at 5:30 Pacific/8:30 Eastern! Hope to "see" you there! 1. [SHIVER-L] A thought on a new page for the web site...
    2. Mary Kathryn Kozy
    3. Hey guys, had a thought this morning, as I was reading e-mails from people I had contacted, but couldn't remember their SHIVER connections. Could ya'll do me a favor and send ME your lines of descent? I don't need a lot of detail, but I thought what I would do was make a new page for the web site that has basically a straight line of descent for all the members of our list. Then, I could add links from the SHIVER people to the appropriate page with more information elsewhere on the site. That way, when I need to know how someone's related (or any of you do), you could just check the site and see how they fit in! What I'm looking for is similar to what we did when the list first started... My line would look like this: Enoch SHIVER md. Dedemiah LOVE or NETTLES John W. SHIVER md. Sarah D. SIMMONS Loyd Hampton SHIVER md. Elizabeth "Lizzie" LUCKEY Perry Loyd SHIVER md. Nellie Elma TAYLOR (Perry is my great-grandfather). I figure if you'd like to stop back a ways to prevent private information being put on the web (I know I don't want my mother's maiden name being put up there!), then that's fine. You can stop similar to how I did. I would really recommend NOT putting living people's names on the site, and I can edit them myself when putting them on the site if you'd like to include all the data so that I can put it in my master database. If you are uncertain how your line goes, you could put it something like this: John SHIVER md. Hannah CLEMMONS James SHIVER md. Elizabeth ???? ||||| (this link unproven) Enoch SHIVER md. Dedemiah LOVE or NETTLES John W. SHIVER md. Sarah D. SIMMONS Loyd Hampton SHIVER md. Elizabeth "Lizzie" LUCKEY Perry Loyd SHIVER md. Nellie Elma TAYLOR (Perry is my great-grandfather). Previously, I haven't had very good response from people with these requests. We now have over 40 people on the list, so making a page of this kind could be VERY helpful to current, as well as future members. I would appreciate as much participation as possible! Thanks for everything! 2. Greetings, Shirley, I don't have much info on my Sarah J "Sallie" "Jane" Shiver - The "Jane" Shiver age 1 in 1850 Dale Co, Al census & in 1860 Pike Co, Al census Sarah J Shiver is listed age 10 born Al she is listed with Malcom & Mary Frazier both from Scotland. I have talked several times with an Uncle who is 83 years young & he remembers - Sarah Jane also called Sallie Shiver Collins & she is buried at Center Ridge Cemetery in Pike Co, Al, he also remembers she had a brother named Asa also called Acie, & a sister Amanda also called Mandy & they lived at Taylor, Al & are buried at CLark's Cemetery. 1. [SHIVER-L] RE: Alabama Marriages
    2. Shirley T Shiver
    3. Hi, All: The information I have regarding the Alabama Marriages posted by Maggie is: (please correct me if I'm wrong.) A.M. (son of Abner B.) m KING, Mollie and MARION m BRUNDRICK, Amanda E are the same person (my husband's grandfather. Mary or "Mollie" King was his grandmother) Lottie (dau of Abner B.) m BUNDRICK, Wm. J (does anyone have a descendancy list for her? Also I strongly suspect that Amanda and Wm.J. are siblings, but haven't had time to pursue this) Abijah and Joel J(ackson) Also sons of Abner B.) married sisters, Georgia and Shady SENN, daus of Emanuel and Emma An interesting note: Abner's youngest son, George Washington SHIVER m Nicey SENN 14 May 1899 in Pike Co (also think she is a sibling of Georgia and Shady). On their license it states they were married "in public road." I don't know about ya'll, but this conjures up all sorts of pictures for me! Maggie: Is your Sarah J the "Jane age 1" listed in the 1850 Dale Co; Alfred Shiver family? Would you send me (or point me to the correct internet site) this family? 'later, cousins, Shirley

    1. [SHIVER-L] Shivers, Mississippi
    2. Due to number of request for this data, I will put it on for anyone interested. This is from a page, looks like from Simpson Co, Miss history, that someone sent me about 15-20 years ago. "SHIVERS SETTLED IN 1802" INcludes a photo of Pheriba (elderly lady), Shivers, in 1827 with Will Walker, Emma Shivers Walker, Lewis Myers and Belle Myers. Also a phot of P.O. and a home built in 1907. John Shivers with his wife moved to Miss League, now the State of Miss, and settled in the southern part, now known as Simpson County. Evan Shivers, born 1802 , son of John Shivers, married Pheriba Beasley, dau of Daniel Beasley, and lived about one and one half miles south of the now village plat of Shivers, Miss. Evan C Shivers, born 1840, son of Evan and Pheriba Shivers, marr Sarah Victoria Berry, and remained on the Shivers Plantation. Evan C Shivers operated a farm, gin, and store and received mail for the community (then know as Salem), in his store. The Church at the time was known as Salem Church. When the US Post Office Dept wanted to establish a PO there, Evan C Shivers sent in three names to name the PO, one of which was Shivers. Since there was a PO in the State of Miss, already named for the other two names submitted, the PO Dept asked Evan C Shiver if it would be satisfactory to name the Post Office with the unique name of Shivers. The PO ws named Shivers with Evan as Postmaster. Later Postmasters have been Sarah Victoria Shivers, (widow of Evan), V.P. Will Shivers (son of Evan), Kate Patterson Shivers, (Widow of V.P.), and Mrs Annie Will Smith, dau of V.P. Shivers. On June 6, 1903, the Plat of Shivers, Miss, was filed with the Chancery Clerk of Simpson Co. The Church, formerly Salem, was named Shivers Bap Church. Shivers ws a thriving community with a number of stores, gins, sawmills, PO, Church, school, and with G&SI, RR until the late 20's when the Great Southern Lumber Co had completed cutting of most of the pine timber adn moved out. In the early 1930 Shivers settled down to two general stores, PO, Church, School, and with the RR operating on a limited basis. At present Shivers still has the Church, PO, and one store. ============================================ I have deciphered the letters of Clara Shiver, who wrote in 1980, while living in a nursing home in Fairhope, AL, age 87. She was widow of Francis Marion SHiver. Will put them up soon. This concerns some of those who were in Coffee County area early.

    3. Dear Group, I did make it up to Dooly County Monday - I'm sorry to report that there were no records available that would prove that Enoch was the son of James Shiver due to that courthouse fire in May 1847. I went ahead and check the records anyway just in case the estate was drawn out but I found nothing. I checked on newspapers of the time frame but there were none. I also went by the local library to see if there were any family histories, etc but again came up empty!! At least, I have satisfied myself that there is nothing in Dooly County records that will help us in our search to find Enoch's parents!! I just wanted to share this with you all. I really wasn't expecting to find anything BUT still I'm disappointed that I didn't. "Talk" with you later. Lyrice
