    1. [SHIVELY] Greetings
    2. James Shuman
    3. Good afternoon fellow researchers! I have just recently been handed the “ownership” of this List, which I see has just 30 members, including myself. I had hoped to find out a little more about this particular research list before posting online, but I guess the best way for me to learn things is to just ask. So, here goes: 1. A few tidbits about your “list owner” (that’s me). a. I’m 79 years old, retired, and have had a life long interest in genealogy research. b. I live in California, where I spent my adult career in education, primarily high school. c. I am interested in this list because my grandfather's cousins had this surname. I’d like to find out more about their ancestors. 2. We are told that Ancestry plans to restore all the Archives eventually, but they are working on the “more active” lists first. For this list, I haven’t found any archives yet. Have any of you found them, or shall we just assume that we are more or less starting from scratch on this list? 3. For those of you who remember the lists from a few years ago, your ability to post and receive messages will function nearly the same, although there are some changes, mostly behind the scenes. That is because Ancestry has invested several months of effort into transferring everything over to a new version of the Mailman program. 4. That’s why I’m here: to help when things misbehave and you can’t get things to do what you want or need. Just send a request my way. Please feel free to help get this list back in functioning order. 1. [SHIVELY] SAY - SHIVELY Family Autograph Albums
    2. Shelley Cardiel via
    3. I've "rescued" two old autograph albums, the first belonging to Norman SAY son of John R. D. SAY of Nickleville, PA including family entries from his cousin Della SAY of Nickleville and family members, James S. SAY of Nickleville, and M. G. MCDONALD of Nickleville, PA along with many friends and others not specifically identified with a relationship. The second album belonged to his wife Jessie COUTTS of Georgetown, Ontario Canada including entries from more than a dozen family members including COUTTS, FARQUHARSON, SCOTT, FRASER, and BUCKHAM Family members along with many more friends. Based on limited research I was able to gather quite a lot of information regarding this couple and their families as follows: Norman Oliver SAY was born 4 May 1867 in Nickleville, PA to parents John R. D. SAY (b. 22 Dec 1840 in Nickleville, PA-d. 8 Mar 1895 in Santa Paula, CA) and Ann Eliza MCDONALD (b. 22 Oct 1840 in Nickleville, PA). Norman was one of 8 children born to this couple including, Harrison S.; Norman Oliver; Harrison "Harry" David; Wilson Alexander; Herman or Hermon Elliot; Malcolm Dennis; Clyde Stewart; and Ruth SAY, all born in PA between 1867 and 1881. Norman married Jessie COUTTS (1870-1947) and together they had 3 children including, Harold Bradley SAY b. 1895 and d. 1980; John McDonald SAY b. 1898 and d. 1971; and James Coutts SAY b. 1898 and d. 1994. Norman died 23 Jul 1936 in Portland, OR and is buried in the Friends Cemetery in Newberg, OR. His cousin Della SAY was b. abt 1868 in PA to parents James S. SAY (1812-1872) and Susanna "Susan" Percheron SHIVELY (1822-1906). Della was one of 11 children born to this couple including, Christian Columbus; Elsie Jane; James Reed; Mary Emma; David W.; Susan Catheron; Ella May; Robert Alexander; John Sherman; Della; and Della Viola SAY, all born between 1842 and 1871. Della married M. R. LYNN (son of Samuel & Jane LYNN) on 23 Jul 1903 in Clarion Co. PA. Jessie Maria COUTTS was b. July 1870 in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada to parents James COUTTS (b. 21 Dec 1838 in Lambton, Ontario, CA) and Mary Ann FRASER (b. 1839). Jessie was one of 6 children born to this couple including, Elizabeth P.; Jessie; William F.; Annie; James; and Mary COUTTS, all born between 1868 and 1878. Jessie married Norman Oliver SAY on 20 Mar 1890. Their three children were all born in Ventura, CA between 1985 and 1898, the two youngest boys being twins. Jessie died in Portland, OR on 21 Nov 1947. Jessie's father James is signed in the album, he was the son of John COUTTS (1806-1897) and Elizabeth MACKENZIE (1813-1899). James was one of 13 children born to this couple including, Jane; James; Margaret; Elizabeth; Jessie; Peter; Mary; John; John Reia; Ann; Isabella; William; and Henrietta COUTTS, all born between 1834 and 1862. Her cousin Jessie Coutts SCOTT signed in the album was b. 16 Jun 1873 in Lambton, Ontario, Canada to parents William SCOTT and Maria COUTTS. Jessie married Donald McIntrye WELLINGTON (1872-1941) and together they had 3 children, Jean Catherine WELLINGTON (1906-1970), Florence Mary WELLINGTON (1910-1996), and Elizabeth Eva WELLINGTON (1912-1984). Jessie died in Moore Township, Lambton, Ontario, Canada on 23 May 1913. Elizabeth P. COUTTS signed in the album as Jessie's sister was b. 1868 in Ontario, Canada and married James Neelands BUCHAN or BUCHAM or BUCKHAM (b. 1856 to parents Thomas R. BUCHAM and Kezia BUCHAM) who is also signed in the album with last name spelled BUCKHAM, indicating that he is from Flint, MI. FARQUHARSON Family members included in the album appear to have been from Moore, Lambton, Ontario, Canada appearing in records there in the 1870's and 1880's and in Brigden, Lambton, Ontario, Canada in the early 1900's as well. It appears that the connection to the FARQUHARSON family may be through the marriage of James COUTTS sister Elizabeth COUTTS to Alex FARQUHARSON. Census records put both Norman and Della's SAY Families in Richland Township, Venango Co. PA in 1870 and 1880; and then Norman SAY'S family in Santa Paula, Ventura Co. CA in 1900; in Pleasant Hill, Clackamas Co. OR in 1910, 1920, and 1930. Census records for the COUTTS Family indicate that they were in Georgetown, Halton, Ontario, Canada in 1881. I am hoping to locate family members from the SAY and COUTTS Families so that these albums can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
