Does anyone know more about this Daniel. Did he come from Fairfield, CT? I recently was researching in the Luzerne County Court House, PA looking for Samuel Sherwood. I didn't find any will recorded but he was involved in several deeds. The best information I found was that he came from Wantage Twp., Sussex Co., NJ. That helps to narrow down the search in NJ. His first deed was from John and Mary Schwartz on Feb. 21, 1827. It bordered Philip Swartz land on Cobb road, Isaac Sherwood, and Asa Hamlins. His second deed is on Mar. 10, 1827 and it again states he was from Wantage. He was granted the land from Isaac and Hannah Sherwood of Providence Twp. This is probably the Isaac married to Hannah Adams and may mean there is a close relationship between them. The land he purchased was near Philip & John Swartz and Henry Sivelly was to retain some of the land. Isaac had obt! ained the land from Michael and Barbara Swartz in 1825. Nancy, Samuel's wife, does appear as his spouse on some deeds but no maiden name is given. Another good piece of information is that Samuel Sherwood, Jr. (son of Samuel from Wantage Twp.) and wife Maryette was involved in some deeds. She had some separate deed purchases and on one it stated her name as Maryette Sherwood (late Stevens). On death certificates of Samuel and Marietta's children there is confusion over Maryette's last name. Some list her as Maryette Steven and one with Secord. One more gives her name as Julia Stevens. None listed her as Maryette Clymer which some researchers believe to be her last name. One thing about the parenthesis with late Stevens sometimes refers to a person who was previously married to a Stevens. Could it be possible that Samuel was her second husband? Maybe her maiden name is Secor/Secord or Clymer. The Secors/Clymers/Stevens all lived in that generally area of Jefferson and Madison! Twp. They are all interdeeded in the Luzerne County Deed Indexes but I did not have time to look all of them up to figure out an real connections. There is alot more work to be done in Luzerne and Lackawanna County. I was disappointed that there wasn't a will. Maybe it is in Lack. Co. Samuel appears to be quite wealthy in all his purchases and on the census. He should have a huge tombstone and a big will and accounts records!!
