Hi Ina, I have Anna MATTHEWS' DOB as 16 JAN 1776, but I don't know where she was born. The source for the DOB is a letter dated 20 DEC 1887, from Eliza Sherwood, of Meshoppen, PA, to the genealogist, William Lounsbury Sherwood (Sherwood collection, New York Public Library, 5th Ave and 42nd St, NYC, NY; microfilm reel #1). She is also mentioned in the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record (NYGBR), Vol. 116, p. 85. You might check the NYGBR indices to see if they have more information than I've included here. As a footnote, Eliza Sherwood, like you, was descended from Samuel Sherwood and Anna Matthews. She was only 22 years old when she wrote to William Lounsbury Sherwood. Her father was Oscar V. Sherwood, a son of Thomas Jefferson Sherwood and Eliza Angeline GUILE (alt. sp. GYLE). Thomas Jefferson Sherwood was a son of Samuel Sherwood and Anna Matthews, and resided in Meshoppen, Wyoming Co, PA. Eliza Sherwood was also the source for much of the information in Vol. 116 of the NYGBR relating to the family of her great-grandparents, Samuel and Anna.
