Hi Judy, The "Zedock Sherwood" who appears in the 1810 Federal Census in Montgomery Co, NY, is my Zadock. Before that he was apparently in Northville, Fulton Co, NY, just north of Montgomery County. My G3grandfather, Richard Reuben Sherwood, was supposedly born in Northville, 18 AUG 1799 (however, "The History of McHenry County, Illinios", p. 334, says that he was born in Montgomery County.) Zadock appears in the 1820 Federal Census for Nunda, NY. By the way, Nunda is in Livingston County. He probably moved there by 1817 (In the 1855 New York State Census, he claims to have lived in Nunda for 38 years). I am particularly interested in finding out more about his early years in New York state - in Fulton and Montgomery Counties. And the most intriguing question for me is whether or not he actually fought on the side of the Colonials in the Revolution. He always claimed that he was a teen-aged teamster and fought in the famous battle where Putnam "downed the steep." To this day, he is honored in Nunda as one of its few "Revolutionary War heroes". But I have never found any record of his wartime service. And circumstantial evidence weighs a bit in favor of him and his family being Loyalist.
