In Virgil D. White's 5,226 page "Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files" (Waynesboro, TN: National Historical Pub. Co. 1990- ) there are several SHERWOOD's who appear in pension apllication abstracts of soldiers whose surname is not SHERWOOD. Below is an abbreviated version of the abstracts contained in the above mentioned publication (for a list of SHERWOOD soldiers from this publication, see a message posted to this list several weeks ago). Henry BARTLEBY; married 22 Nov.1779 Ann, Anna or Nancy SHERWOOD at New Windsor, Orange Co., NY; marriage performed by Rev. James SHERWOOD. 5. Jay BABBITT; in 1820 wife's children: Mercy SHERWOOD age 17 and Joseph SHERWOOD age 15. 6. Elijah ANDREWS; born 1750 at Wallingford, CN; daughter Lucy SHERWOOD. 7. David BARLOW; born 1761 at Stratford, CN; died 1820; married 1 Nov.1789 Lucy SHERWOOD. 8. Samuel FRENCH; in May 1846 soldier's only surviving child was Orra E., wife of Norman C. SHERWOOD of Monroe, CN. 9. James BROWN; born in Ireland; died 1815 in NY; lived in Danbury, CN & Philadelphia during War; married 1774 Rachel SHERWOOD who was 16 years old at the time; had twelve children. 10. John CROAT; in 1820 age 66 at Sand Lake, Albany Co., NY and living with a motherless grandson named William SHERWOOD age 12. 11. John FINCH; born Stamford, CN; enlisted at North Salem, Westchester Co., NY where he lived until 1809 when he moved to Fishkill, Dutchess Co., NY; wife's name Martha; son Isaac FINCH married 15 Oct.1825 Hannah SHERWOOD. 12. Richard HOPKINS; enlisted at Boston; married 1781 Ruth BELAMY at Old Stamford, CN; daughter Laura SHERWOOD of NY in 1853. 13. Samuel L. JONES; born 1766 Groton, CN; died 1803; married 13 Nov.1789 Elizabeth SHERWOOD; she was born 1766 and living in NYCity in 1838. 14. James ORSER; born 1744 Westchester Co., NY; a Moses SHERWOOD knew of his service. 15. Samuel OSBORN; born 1762 at Woodbridge, New Haven Co., CN; lived Goshen, CN and Green Co., NY; married Elizabeth HERRICK; son James P. HERRICK married 1846 Phebe Ann SHERWOOD. 16. Jesse WOOD; married Lois WHEELER; in 1844 a Walker SHERWOOD of Weston, CN said solider's widow was his wife's aunt. 17. Gilbert POTTER; served in Navy and NY line; died 1783; married 19 Dec.1780 Rachel SHERWOOD at the home of her father Job SHERWOOD of Peekskill, Westchester Co., NY; sister Sarah SHERWOOD married 20 Dec.1780 soldier's brother Samuel POTTER; Rachel SHERWOOD born 24 Aug.1756; of NYCity in 1844; remarried a VAN TASSELL. 18. According to the index of the abstracts, a Henry SHERWOOD is supposed to be on page 853--but I could not locate him.
