Hi All, Can anyone help identify the following Sherwoods enumerated in the 1850 Federal Census in Orleans County, NY? 1. Town of Carlton Anson N. Sherwood, age 39, b. NY, farmer; Olive, 39, b. NY; Mary, 17, b. NY; Seth, 72, b. CT; Lucretia WARNER, 45, b. NY; Emmet BYERS, 15, b. NY. (Probably Olive is his wife, Mary his daughter, Seth his father, and the two unrelated people are employed in his household). 2. Town of Clarendon Who is the Almira Sherwood, age 20, b. NY, who is in the household of Levi Sherwood, 53, b. CT, farmer? Levi was b. New Fairfield, Fairfield Co, CT, son of Nathan Sherwood and Lucy HOLLISTER. He d. 7 OCT 1850. Levi m. Patience TRIPP, who apparently had died by 1850, because she does not appear in Levi's household in the 1850 census record that I am citing. The census record goes on to show Rebecca, 33, b. NY (perhaps Levi's second wife); Amanda, 13, b. NY; Caroline, 10, b. NY; Harriet PETERSON, 23, b. NY; Benton SPENCER, 18, b. NY, laborer; and the Almira Sherwood whom I am interested in. 3. Town of Clarendon Thaddeus R. Sherwood, 37, b. NY, mercantile; Clarissa, 24, b. NY (probably his wife); George M., 3, b. NY; Thaddeus M., 10 months, b. NY; Oscar A. HARRIS, 23, b. NY, clerk. 4. Town of Ridgeway James Sherwood, 44, b. NY, painter; Eliza, 44, b. NY; Harriet, 16, b. NY; Cornelia, 12, b. NY; Charles, 10, b. NY; Silas McNEIL, 20, b. NY, painter; John MOLA, 20, b. NY, painter. Many Orleans County Sherwoods are descended from Nathan D. Sherwood (b. 16 JAN 1718, Greens Farms, CT; d. 17 FEB 1823, Maple Ridge, Orleans Co, NY) and his two wives: 1st, Phebe ROBERTS and 2nd, Joanna NOBLE. So the Sherwoods that I have listed are possibly also descended from Nathan D.
