Hi. I am new to the list and as such thought I would supply the listing I have for my family of Sherwoods. I am based in Canberra, Australia and the family of Sherwoods that I am related to originated in Fowlmere, Cambridgeshire in England. Here is a couple of generations information. Her line is Pat, Lizzie Mae Sherwood, Lester Linzie Sherwood, Johnnie Gray Sherwood. Pat's husband (my brother), Porter Pierce, and she have been doing some work on the line and asked me to organize what they found. I put what they "know" into a genealogy computer program and am working on verifying the info. Presently I am checking the census for family members from 1850 to 1920 in TX, OK, LA, AL, MS, GA, TN, and MO. Shirley Richcourt has done extensive research on part of the family, but I have found discrepancies in some of her work. Tom Sherwood in Oklahoma has e-mailed Pat's son some info without sources attached. I'm trying to find him again to check out the info. So far, Johnnie and Carrie are elusive. They don't show up in the 1910 census anywhere. I'm checking other states to see if they might be living with someone, or, perhaps, the census taker missed them in Albe. Dear List Members: Hoping someone out there can help me with this. Daniel was born 1775? CN, MA or NY. He married Jane CHASE abt. 1820. Place unknown. They had three children: Louisa-- no information Daniel,Jr. b: 1825, place unk, M: Melissa CHASE--place unk, d: 1887 Yates Co.,NY Cyrus b: 1827,Yates Co.,NY, M: Jane GRANT--Bath,NY, d: 1913 Yates Co.,NY Daniel & Melissa show up in the 1850 census, Yates Co.,NY. Cyrus & Jane show up in the 1855 census, Yates Co.,NY. It appears that they, and their families, spent the rest of their years in that area. I have tried to trace him through the CHASE line, to no avail. Jane was born in Dutchess Co.,NY and have followed the movements of her family to various other counties in NY. He appears in the Yates Co., NY census for 1825 & 1835. However, he is listed alone---no family. I have checked the census records of many other counties, if they were available. Part of the problem may be that because he was a minister he may have been traveling during the taking of the census. But surely he was somewhere when the census was done.

As Geoff has said, this list is like a family, so on behalf of the British members I would like to say how much our thoughts & prayers are with the American people and those of all nations who have lost friends & loved ones in this most terrible attack. As President Bush & Tony Blair have said, this was an attack against all civilized nations. At the time the WTC was hit, nationals of many countries were working there, including 500 British citizens of whom over 100 are still missing. His stone gives no birth date but simply an age which might mean that he could be a brother of your ancestor if their births were close together.
