    1. [SHERWOOD] Sherwd Peter b 1775 Herts
    2. Lorraine Edwards
    3. This is my first query. I have the above Peter Sherwood's marriage to Jane Spencer at St Martin inthe Fields in 1799 and would like to know how to get details of his death/burial and possible will, probably in Lambeth. In 1820 his bricklaying business was changed into his wife Jane's name in the London directories. I believe he had been in the business with his brother Richard. Peter and Jane's family consisted of William b 1801, Bailey 1802, Newman 1806, Peter 1806. Bailey b 1802 is my ancestor, his son Charles came to Australia in 1862. Peter and Jane's marriage was witnessed by a Sarah Newman and Newman recurs within the family but I found no link on the IGI. We believe Peter and Richard's parents were James Sherwood and Anne Bailey married 18/10/1763 at Baldock Herts. James was a bricklayer. It would be fantastic to find Peter, Jane or any of their family had a tombstone. Bailey's children were baptised at St John the Evangelist, Lambeth. Bailey possibly went to Margate in later years, his wife Ann died there c 1891. Any suggestions or comments greatly appreciated. Lorraine nee Sherwood Nth Queeensland

    2. Marilyn Angelo
    3. In August 1774 the "Freeholders and Inhabitants of the Township of Rye" (NY) passed a resolution against the closing of the port of Boston. In September 1774 some citizens of Rye published a statement to clarify their support of the King. Among those who signed this statement was Nehemiah Sherwood. Does anyone know whether this was the Nehemiah Sherwood who was married to Mary Shelley? Marilyn Angelo mangelo@binghamton.edu

Her mother's name was Catharine as well, and she was born in Pennsyvania. I don't know her father's name, but he was born in Connecticut. Her mother, Catharine, lived with Harley in 1860 in Centralia, and in 1870 and 1880 they all lived in one household along with Harry Hoyt or Holt, Catharine and Harley's brother-in-law, Emily, and their children Harvey and Arthur. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I need to find Catharine, Harley and Emily's father, born in CT, probably around 1800 or so. Thanks, Cinda

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JFHBAEB/865.1 Message Board Post: Believe that Anna may be the daughter of my 4th Gr Grandfather, Adaiah Sherwood and his wife Catherine of Washington County, VA.. If so, Anna was born 17 July 1797. While Anna mother's name was Catherine, she did have a twin sister Hannah, who later married Levi Lester. Anna married John Quinnelly on either 11 or 14 January 1819. Source of birth/marriage information on Anna is Adaiah Sherwood's Bible. Adaiah's bible also states that John died on 8 November 1838.

John Sherwood married Sally Pease on 5 July 1824 in Palmyra, NY. He lived in Collins, Erie, NY in 1830 before moving to Ontario, Canada in 1836. The Sherwood and Seapy families returned to US in 1846, settling in Kane County, Illinois. John and Sally Pease Sherwood had 6 children: Seth, Abram, Milton, Martha, John and Mary. Could Silas Richard Sherwood be a son of John Sherwood and Sibbila Jeffords, and a sister of Dorcas Sherwoood Seapy?

Hiram and Samuel moved west to Trumansburg around 1830. They were tailors by trade, and later opened a dry goods store. I will go back and check to see if she is listed in the Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg - that is where the rest of the Clocks are buried. If you come across other information, please let me know, and thank you so much for this - I appreciate it!
