No, RootsWeb.com is not sending you a virus or worm in an attachment -- no matter what these "forged" addresses with RootsWeb name in it say. Be sure your anti-virus software is up-to-date and that you use it. Never open any e-mail attachments unless you have confirmed with the sender that she or he did indeed send it to you for a reason. Do not assume that the attachment came from where it says -- these sophisticated worms are able to forge addresses and they are fooling lots of people. Some even claim to be "worm removal tools." Don't believe them. The Klez worm has been able to spread because of a security vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer (browser) and because many people do not update their browser and download these patches. Don't risk the loss of your personal and genealogical data: Update your browser now: Click: "Start", then "Windows Update" and then "PRODUCT UPDATES" Most antivirus vendors, such as Symantec, McAfee and Sophos, offer Klez patches. But I cannot/have not found parents/siblings of James, the father of Charles N. I do not attach the middle name 'Lewis' to James, because I have not found anything to substantiate that, and also because 'James Lewis' was the given name of Charles' first son/child, born 4 Feb 1860. Since the father, James, was born in 1804 or 1806, middle names were not at all common at that time. Not unheard of, but not common. Elizabeth, who married Jacob McClurg (rather than McClarg)was not a Sherwood. After the death of James, Rebecca married Elias Mitchell (1844), and Elizabeth is from that marriage, b. 1845. But Elias Mitchell seems to have disappeared after a short time, Rebecca was again 'Rebecca Sherwood' by the 1850 Census. (I have not been able to find a death record for Elias.) And, Elizabeth was known as Elizabeth Sherwood. Do you have an Acrobat Reader? If not, I can send family group sheets in plain text. Acrobat just makes them 'prettier.' There was a Martin (Martin V. or B. or V.B.- my guess is Martin V.B. - for Martin Van Buren??), and a Marvin. I think I've found a Marvin who might be the right one in Michigan, but not sure.

Please see the message I posted to Susan Wiitanen about the brick wall with James. I would be interested to see a family group sheet for Walter and Dorothy (Schermerhorn). For some reason, I've had it in my head that their son, Earl, who died at age 12 was their only child. Then I got Walter's death certificate, which stated the 'informant' was Walter, Jr. How many children did they have?

His name was Sherwood Sims (name changed from Symes to Sims to protect the guilty I guess). Elizabeth b Norfolk Va in 1672 d 1725/26 was reported to have married George Symes in Hanover Co Va ca 1687, which would have made her 15 years old. Here are my notes on Samuel: Samuel & Nancy are my 4th great grandparents. +++++++++++++++++++ Samuel Sherwood was one of 135 men to sign the petition, February 5, 1794, to establish Onandaga County from Herkimer County. Land transaction records show that Samuel Sherwood owned land in Manlius, Onondaga County, NY as early as 1794. In that year he sold land in lot 89 to E. Stilwill. (1CR,136). In 1801 Samuel & Nancy Sherwood sold land from lot 89 to S. Sherman (A, 453); they also sold from lot 84, Pompey in 1803 to B. Lervis, Jr.(C, 103) ; and Samuel sold, in 1810, land from lot 89 to C. Mosely. (I, 624) These Census results show at least two Samuel Sherwoods in Onandaga County: Sherwood, Samuel NY ONONDAGA CO. 124 1800 11010-0101000 Sherwood, Samuel NY ONONDAGA CO. 017 1810 00201-01111 Sherwood, Samuel NY ONONDAGA CO. JEFFERSON TWP 003 1840 Sherwood, Samuel PA LUZERNE CO. PROVIDENCE TWP 098 1840 Thus far we have been unsuccessful in determining much else about Samuel and his wife Nancy. In the Virkus Compendium of American Genealogy (VOL V;P 672) only his name is given. From the Nicholas Knapp Genealogy we learn that his wife's name is Nancy. We believe it is he who is listed in the 1850 Census for Providence, in Luzerne County, PA as follows: [FHL FILM #444761; p.279] Samuel Sherwood AGE 86,NO OCCUPATION; REAL ESTATE = $15,000; BIRTH PLACE: UNKNOWN Nancy 83 N,J. Although shown as owner of dwelling 253, Samuel is not listed as head of household, but as an elder in the home of a Samuel Sherwood, age 36, born in NJ; his wife Margaret, age 33, born in NY; and their children, ages 1-12, all born in PA. Note that Samuel's daughter Eliza was 40 this year, married in 1827, and living in Madison Township, a head of household herself, as the widow of Loton Knapp. Eliza's birth place is given as New Jersey in at least two census entries, 1860 and 1870. Her husband's family moved from NY to Luzerne County as early as 1796. It seems likely, but not certain, that she met and married him in PA. If this all holds true, then it is likely that the elder Samuel Sherwood and family relocated from NJ to PA after 1813 but before 1827. *************** Home: Surnames: Stevens Family Genealogy Forum JOHN RATHBONE STEPHENS, Steuben, NY1790 Posted by: Kay Stahl Date: November 01, 1999 at 05:22:40 of 2060 Looking for more information on Marietta Stephens b. Does anyone know more about this Daniel. Did he come from Fairfield, CT? I recently was researching in the Luzerne County Court House, PA looking for Samuel Sherwood. I didn't find any will recorded but he was involved in several deeds. The best information I found was that he came from Wantage Twp., Sussex Co., NJ. That helps to narrow down the search in NJ. His first deed was from John and Mary Schwartz on Feb. 21, 1827. It bordered Philip Swartz land on Cobb road, Isaac Sherwood, and Asa Hamlins. His second deed is on Mar. 10, 1827 and it again states he was from Wantage. He was granted the land from Isaac and Hannah Sherwood of Providence Twp. This is probably the Isaac married to Hannah Adams and may mean there is a close relationship between them. The land he purchased was near Philip & John Swartz and Henry Sivelly was to retain some of the land. Isaac had obt! ained the land from Michael and Barbara Swartz in 1825. Nancy, Samuel's wife, does appear as his spouse on some deeds but no maiden name is given. Another good piece of information is that Samuel Sherwood, Jr. (son of Samuel from Wantage Twp.) and wife Maryette was involved in some deeds. She had some separate deed purchases and on one it stated her name as Maryette Sherwood (late Stevens). On death certificates of Samuel and Marietta's children there is confusion over Maryette's last name. Some list her as Maryette Steven and one with Secord. One more gives her name as Julia Stevens. None listed her as Maryette Clymer which some researchers believe to be her last name. One thing about the parenthesis with late Stevens sometimes refers to a person who was previously married to a Stevens. Could it be possible that Samuel was her second husband? Maybe her maiden name is Secor/Secord or Clymer. The Secors/Clymers/Stevens all lived in that generally area of Jefferson and Madison! Twp.
