She was born 9/25/1889 in Spokane, WA, died 7/26/1945 in Stanislaus, CA. In the 1920 census she lists her parents as both being born in Michigan. In the CA death Index her mother's maiden name is listed as Riley. Considering your ancestor's middle name was Riley and from Michigan, do you think we might have a connection? Hi Ina, I have Anna MATTHEWS' DOB as 16 JAN 1776, but I don't know where she was born. The source for the DOB is a letter dated 20 DEC 1887, from Eliza Sherwood, of Meshoppen, PA, to the genealogist, William Lounsbury Sherwood (Sherwood collection, New York Public Library, 5th Ave and 42nd St, NYC, NY; microfilm reel #1). She is also mentioned in the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record (NYGBR), Vol. 116, p. 85. You might check the NYGBR indices to see if they have more information than I've included here. As a footnote, Eliza Sherwood, like you, was descended from Samuel Sherwood and Anna Matthews. She was only 22 years old when she wrote to William Lounsbury Sherwood. Her father was Oscar V. Sherwood, a son of Thomas Jefferson Sherwood and Eliza Angeline GUILE (alt. sp. GYLE). Thomas Jefferson Sherwood was a son of Samuel Sherwood and Anna Matthews, and resided in Meshoppen, Wyoming Co, PA. Eliza Sherwood was also the source for much of the information in Vol. 116 of the NYGBR relating to the family of her great-grandparents, Samuel and Anna. Hi Ina, I have a Samuel Sherwood in my line who would have been born aproximately the same time as your Samuel Sherwood who was born in 1768. All I know is that mine was born in CT and moved to NY. He was listed in Otisco, Onondaga Co. NY in both the 1820 and 1830 census. He had a daughter Catharine b. 1803 who m. Lyman Johnson. Is there a possibility that these two Samuels are the same? Abby Jane's siblings were: Betsey, b. 1 JUN 1787; d. 22 JUL 1848 John Calvin (went by his middle name), b. c1795; m. Polly STEADWELL Jotham, b. 1797, Rye, NY; d. 13 APR 1850, Rye, NY; m. Olivia LYON James Harvey, b. c1805; m. Deborah M. PARKS Phebe, b. 1806 Abby Jane m. _____ BRUNDAGE, and had the following children: James Harvey (probably the Harvey Brundage that you wrote about; quite possibly named after her brother James Harvey), b. 1835 (NYGBR, Vol. 116, p. 85) Frederick, b. 1838 Thomas, b. 1840 All of the foregoing information is from the "New York Genealogical and Biographical Review", Volume 116 (if I am correctly remembering what the acronym "NYGBR" stands for).
