Hi everyone, Two Brothers Joseph & Reuben Smith both Rev war soldiers Came from VA to Redstone Fort are of PA then to KY by 1790s. Beleive they are both listed in the Wash Co,PA Tax list in 1785( Bethelem Twp) Joseph Smith age 89 in 1850 Hardin Co,KY ( age 71 in 1833) stated in his pension: That he was born on the Shanandoah River in the state of Virginia from which place his father moved to the frontier and settled near Red Stone Old Fort (now Brownsville) then supposed to be in Pennsylvania and after the line was layed(?) between Virginia and Pennsylvania it was ascertained that his father resided in Pennsylvania. <snip> Where were you living when called into service? Where have you lived since the Revolutionary War and where do you now live? Answer: I was living two miles from Red Stone Old Fort (now Browsville) on the Monongahela River in the state of Pennsylvania. I moved to Fayette county in the state of Kentcky in the year 1788 (1786?) as well as I recollect <snip> (Affadavit attached - Robert Samuels of Bullitt county,KY certified that "...he is acquainted with Joseph Smith who is an applicant for pension under the Act of Congress made the 7th day of June 1832 and in the year 1780 lived a near neighbor until the year 1784 during which time I understood said Smith had gone out to Jackson's Fort as a spy on guard Reuben's pension! Reuben Smith applied for pension 13 Nov 1832, age 74. Enlisted 1777 ( pension application 1833 Floyd Co,IN) near what is now Brownsville, VA ( PA?) for 3 years. Entitlted to 100 A. Land. Attached to 13th Va. Regt; later to 7th Va. Regt Officers: Capt Steele; Lt. Wm. Williams; Lt. David Williams (brother of Wm. Williams); Col John Gibson; Adj. Jacob Coleman. Stationed at Ft. Pitt (now Pittsburgh). Guarded prisioners of Gen. Burgoin's Artillery. Hire a substitute, John Shay who was later executed.
