Shenandoah county, VA land records thanks to Joe Baker.....guess I missed the message the first time. Now I see that a land record for 1753 could say my ancestor was from Augusta Co, when later the land would be in Frederick/Dunmore/Shenandoah. Near Woodstock, Va. I still do not know why I found these records for 1753 and 1764, a bill of sale dated 1766 - under Dunmore records, but at least I found them. (it was Dunmore from 1772-1778). I knew some of the names in other records mentioned at same time - like a Nizeley (Nicely/Knisely) and a Hawkins were also names in both Augusta, but also living near my ancestor in Frederick/Shenandoah. As a matter of fact, he sold his land in 1787 to a Bird, his son sold his to a Hawkins - these were their neighbors and I understand the Hawkins was son-in-law to Abraham Bird. Anyway, it all begins to make sense now. My ancestor probably never really moved during this time, just the county lines moved. thank you very much Mary [email protected]
