Thanks to all for your opinions. Most gave me comfort that they never heard of grand aunts or uncles; just like me. I guess there was never anyone living long enough to be referred to in any other way. The catch in genealogy is that we can now go back many generations and if I skip calling my mothers uncle as a granduncle then my 4th great grandmother's brother becomes my 5th great uncle instead of my 4th great granduncle.
