Lynne, Thanks for the great explanation of Tidewater et.al. Does anyone know if either Culpeper or Madison County Virginia, or both, are considered Piedmont. I suspect Madison is, but am not certain. Simple definitions: 1. Tidewater is the coastal area. It goes as far inland as the tide can reach -- that is, to the first water falls or "rapids" which keep the tide from going higher inland. In Virginia, for instance, the first falls on the James River are at Richmond. Everything east is tidewater. The fall-line (see below) is the line drawn on the map by connecting all the first water falls. 2. Headwaters is where a river starts -- usually high in the mountains, inland. 3. Carolina Piedmont -- the piedmont (pied = foot, mont = mountains, so foot-hills) is the area between the fall-line and the mountains. There's a Carolina piedmont area, Virginia piedmont area, Georgia piedmont etc. Let me know if you have questions about this. Lynne Hundley ---------- I am unfamiliar with the following terms: > 1.
