Hi, According to Wayland, Pine Forge was located on the west side of the Massanutten Mountain in the upper end of Shenandoah County. Apparently located near Smith Creek. re: Dirck Pennypacker;, "the census of Shenandoah County taken in 1783 by Alexander Hite does not contain Pennypacker's name: but his name does appear in the census of 1785, as the head of a family- a remarkedly large family, sixty four in number! At this time (1785) he evendently was living on the west side of the Massanutten Mountain, in the upper end of the county. Therefore, it seems reasonable to conclud that he had already established himself on Smith Creek, at the place where he and his sons developed as extensive iron-making business, which became well known all over the county as Pine Forge." Hope this helps. Ken
