Linda, I don't know how much you know about the GOCHENOURS so I will just give you a baseline look, in case you did not already know. Henry GOCHENOUR, the emigrant is the father of your Rachel. Henry GOCHENOUR is my grandfather through his son, Henry GOCHENOUR, Jr. Settling in the Shenandoah Valley at the same time was Jacob GOCHENOUR, the emigrant. They are thought to be brothers; but as far as I know, it has never been proven that the two emigrant GOCHENOURS were, in fact, brothers. However, they were "in fact" neighbors acquiring their first lands at about the same time. Henry GOCHENOUR is recorded with a land grant of 300 acres on 20 Oct 1750 on the north side of Narrow Passage near St. Luke, Shenandoah County, Virginia. The location of this property is approximately 2.5 miles from the land grant issued to Jacob Gochenour, the imigrant for 400 acres located about 4 miles northwest of Woodstock, Shenandoah Co., Virginia and is today where the community of Fairview is located. The date of Jacob GOCHENOUR, the emigrant's first grant found was June 15, 1754; however, there has been found a survey done for him dated November 2, 1750. In summery, it appears the two GOCHENOUR, emigrants were in the valley before 1750 if you consider the time it took to get all the land documentation work completed and recorded. My RITTER family members have married into the GOCHENOUR family a number of times with some moving West together as time moved forward. My Great-Great Grandparents were Jacob RITTER and Elizabeth GOCHENOUR. Jacob's sister, Lucinda RITTER married Elizabeth's brother, Jonathan Calvin. Elizabeth and Jonathan Calvin GOCHENOUR were the children of Jacob GOCHENOUR, the son of Henry GOCHENOUR, Jr. and the Grandson of Henry GOCHENOUR, Sr., the emigrant. As a young child, the GOCHENOUR and RITTER families were still close friends and neighbors in the farming community where my Grandmother Maud RITTER was born and raised in Illinois. Both the emigrant GOCHENOUR pioneer settlers (Jacob & Henry, Sr.), appear to have used naming patterns in the old world traditions which has left much confusion as to which family a person belonged as both families used the same names! The marriage of my grandfather Jacob GOCHENOUR to Leah CHRISMAN connect by roots directly to Magdalina HITE making Joist/Yost HITE one of my direct Grandfathers. Let me know what information you already have and what kind of information you need. I will be glad to help you, if I can, but I don't want to repeat "stuff" you already know. Chocy
