That is the one I wanted - and let me mention that it is not Michael Turner but Michael Turney.....your marriage book is the one where the name is mis-spelled. I know Michael Turney married Ellender Matheny daughter of Daniel Matheny....but another source is: A HISTORY OF SHENANDOAH COUNTY, VIRGINIA John W. Wayland he gives a list of early Shenandoah Marriage from the court records....lists date, bride, groom, and minister page 747 1785, Sept. 22 Michael Turney Elender Mathany John Koontz as minister. Now Michael Turney in 1783 Head of Families census is shown as son of Peter Turney, Daniel Turney living next door is also son of Peter Turney and he had earlier married Susan Matheny, another daughter of Daniel Matheny. The Turneys had earlier lived on North Branch of Shenandoah River near Edinburg/Woodstock - there are Koontz/Countz as neighbors there and I understand John Koontz often was the preacher at Woodstock. His church was White House and many of his congregation was from Culpepper Co Va since the church was located near a pass between Culpepper and Shenandoah Counties. This is why for so long researchers thought the Turneys were from Culpepper County - they were not - they came out of PA and settled about 1749 or 1750 near Edinburg/Woodstock. In 1760s they moved a bit south to near Red Banks and had as neighbors Byrd and Hawkins - Daniel Turney property became Green Hope or something like that. Anyway, this marriage is for a Turney - not a Turner There is a Michael Turner getting married about the same time in Romney (Hampshire Co?) to a Murphy and they soon left for KY.... more than you wanted to know Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robin Poeschek" <robinpoeschek@shaw.ca> To: <shenandoah@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 25, 2007 9:30 PM Subject: Re: [SHENANDOAH] Marriage Books > MATHANEY - > Elender & Michael Turner 19 Sep 1785; bond Danl Mathaney > > Robin > > -----Original Message----- > From: shenandoah-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:shenandoah-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mary Miller > Sent: Sunday, February 25, 2007 4:33 PM > To: shenandoah@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [SHENANDOAH] Marriage Books > > Do you find the name Matheny? > > Thank you > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > SHENANDOAH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SHENANDOAH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > >
