I live in Utah and the Gen Society of Utah in Salt Lake City is run by the Mormon Church. Ancestry.com is NOT owned or run by the church but by private individuals in Provo, Utah. I go to the Family History Center in Salt Lake City all the time, and I stay away from Ancestry. They ARE NOT CONNECTED. Ancestry may have some of the same things offered, but they pay for the privilege to use them and charge other people to use their stuff. I do not like it that if I post my info on Ancestry's site people have to pay to see it and Ancestry pockets the money, but they are a business. The Mormon Church does not charge, except postage to mail films out to people or to have copies made. No matter how you read the information, it is the Mormon church who owns Ancestry.com & they are charging for information that is donated to them.
