Hello List, I am looking for information on these persons who met in Virginia in the 1700s in what I think was origonally Augusta County and travelled to Kentucky before it became a state. early land grant records would be useful. Also, my John Ritchie was from Scotland. Were there any Scottish settlements in Virginia around that time of the early to mid to late 1700's. Thanks so much, Tracy Thompson Knapp Texas
Hello Tracy, About 1737 our Allens left County Armagh in Ulster Ireland for what became Frederick County in the northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We believe their ancestors may have been from Ayreshire in Scotland. As were most early Scots-Irish, they were Presbyterians. Their descendants helped settled Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma. Good luck in your never completed genealogy quest.
