Yep, I'm home »»»»» but in the process of moving from TX to TN. I have an ancestor born there ----- Aaron Burgett B--Jul 24, 1782 and one is supposedly buried there --- Simon Purget(t) -- don't know when but he is the father or GF of Aaron. I'm online most every day, one way or another.
Seeking information on any Vance families from Shenandoah County.
Still seeking information about Pine Forge, four miles north of New Market, where my family arrived in 1815. J. Denis Glover jd-glover@comcast.net

Hi List, Let me throw my brick-walled family out one more time to see if any of the new subscribers might have a suggestion. My g-g-gf Jacob Spore is listed in the St Paul Lutheran records in Strasburg as being born July 25, 1771, son of Heinrich and Catharina Spohr. (He died in 1849 in Gibson Co. IN.) Other children listed are Cathar, b March 17, 1773; Margaretha, b February 27, 1775; and Johannes, b January 17, 1777. Other known facts about the Spohr/Spore family in Shen. Co. are-- 1. 1783 census of Shen. Co. shows Henry Spoor, family of 8. 2. Since 4 children are listed in the church records, it is believed that the other 2 may be Magdelina Spore, who m Casper Hemp Aug. 16, 1785, per Wayland's book, and Henry Spore, b 1784 and m Elizabeth Ramey in 1807 in Frederick Co, with John (Johannes?) Spore as surety? (Henry Spore also ended up in Gibson Co. IN, and has recently been positively linked to Jacob Spore through the Spore DNA project.) 3. Only hint of Heinrich Spohr/Spore owning land in Shen. Co. is in a Northern Neck Grant of 191 acres to George Shoemaker April 24, 1779, where the land description is "191 acres on both sides of Ryans Run, a branch of Stoney Creek adjoining Henry Spoore". 4. The Spores joined the Mauck, Hemp, and other families who moved to Washington Co. TN around the turn of the century. Some of these families moved on to Harrison Co. IN in the 1820's and 1830's to join other Maucks, Hottels, Kellers and Fravels, who had apparently come straight to IN from Shenandoah Co. 5. Henry Spore was in Alexander Machir's company (Strasburg District) during the Revolution. My questions: Where did Heinrich/Henry Spohr/Spore come from? Was he the Henry Spor on the ship Boston into Phila. in Nov. 1764? Are there descendants of Heinrich Spohr's other children? What was Catharina Spohr's maiden name? Does anybody know anything about these families? Gerald L Spore Descendant of Spore,Mauck,Hemp,Fravel,Hottell,Keller,Dressler
