    1. Re: [SHENANDOAH] Northern Neck Grants - Wood
    2. Mary Miller
    3. Pat - there is about a half page of entries for Wood and Woods in this Land Grant book - do you have a first name? You might also want to look at the 1785 Head of house census for Wood.....or had yours left Shenandoah Co Va by then? When you think you have found a first name - let me know and I will see what is here. following are entries with just Wood name...... page 69 The following Deeds (318-397) were for lots in Winchester Town. Deeds give the Grantee, place of residence if shown, lot numbers & date of Grant. Town lots were 1/2 A. & Commons lots were Five A. unless otherwise noted. All town surveys were made by Mr. John Baylis. Conditions set down by Fairfax for Town of Winchester: Town lot dwelling house shall be no less than Sixteen by wenty Feet with Chimney of Brick or Stone. Grantee shall not Erect or Build any buildings of any Kind on Commons Lot nor permit Commons Lot to be Seperated from Town Lot but must remain part of parcel forever. H-318: Mr. James Wood of Frederick Co. Town Lot No. 1 & Commons Lot No. 53. 15 May 1753 H-321: Mr. ____ Wood of Frederick Co. Town Lot No. 4 & Commons Lot No. 10. 15 May 1753 H-322: Mr. ____ Wood of Frederick Co. Town Lot No. 5 & Commons Lot No. 31. 15 May 1753 H-326: Thomas Wood of Frederick Co. Town Lot No. 9 & Commons Lot No. 59. 15 May 1753 (so looks like at least two Wood in Winchester town in 1753) page 102 I-205: Obed Calvert of Pr. William Co. 212 A. on Head Brs. of Neabsco in said Co. Surv. John Moffett. Adj. Wood, george Calvert, James Peake, John Peake, John Russell. 3 Mar. 1772 Page 109 I-336: Mr. Reginald Graham of Pr. William Co. assignee of Samuel Byrne 50 A. in said Co. Surv. John Moffett. Adj. Brown & Hornsby, Wood, Gauff. 28 Nov. 1778 page 189 O-32: Messrs. John Foxcroft & Charles Thomson of Philadelphia 160 A. on S. Br. in Hampshire Co. surv'd for John Greenfield and Plat returned by John Moffett Nov. 13, 1762. Greenfield did not comply with order from Office of Mar. 26, 1765 (see book N). Adj. Manor Line, Miller's Run. 1 May 1767 (no Wood but look at next) O-33: Messrs. John Foxcroft & Charles Thomson of Philadelphia 242 A. on S. Br. in Hampshire Co. surv'd for John Greenfield by John Moffett 12 May 1762. Greenfield did not comply with order from Office (see Book N). Adj. Manor line, land surv'd for Jones, Wood, Darling. 2 May 1767 and what is Manor line? after doing a lookup on Maiden, Maddin, Madden surname I wonder if this is a surname of Manor or if it means where there is a Manor house..... as I said - there are many, many entries for Wood and Woods, if you could give me a first name. Also check the 1783 and 1785 head of household census for Wood/Woods..... 1785 I find a John Wood and William Wood in location of Front Royal Charel Wood on Back Road not far from Moore's Store- from Massanutten Mt on east to Great North Mountain on the west( New Market, Quicksburg, Forrestville, and Moore's Store) Thomas Wood - around Lebanon Church, Wheatfield, Topnot, and north to Cedar Creek. George Wood - near Woodstock and vicinity from the river to the North Mountain those might be of help to you. 3. 1785 Head of house census might be of help name of head of family white souls dwellings other buildings 7. List of Richard Branham Branahm's list was probably made in the upper end of the Page Valley, in the district including Marksville, Stanley, Leaksville, Alma, Honeyville, and Newport. Wooff, Jacob 5 1 8. List of Jacob Rinker the families listed by Rinker were about his home, Conicville, and in adjacent sections - Hudson's Cross Roads, Jerome, Liberty Furnace, Mt. Clifton, etc. Woolf, Mary (widow) 7 1 Woolf, Jacob, Senr. 2 (I would take this to mean Jacob Senr with 2 souls was living in same house as widow Mary Woolf????) 12. List of Joseph Pugh Pugh's list was taken in Woodstock and vicinity, from the river to the North mountain. Wolfenberger, John 6 1 1 Wolfenberger, Peter 8 Wolfenberger, Benja 3 hope that helps. Mary

    1. [SHENANDOAH] Indiana Marriage Index - 1790-1957
    2. Julie
    3. I thought this might be relevant since many of our ancestors left Virginia and some of them ended up in Indiana Indiana Marriage Index Work is now underway to create an Indiana marriage index from 1790 to 1957. The Indiana Genealogical Society (P.O. Box 10507, Ft. Wayne IN 46852-0507; http://www.indgensoc.org) and the Genealogical Society of Utah (50 East North Temple, Salt Lake City UT 84150; http://www.gensocietyofutah.org) are working together to index the marriage records for every county in Indiana, beginning with the earliest surviving records and going up to 1957. GSU staff are working to digitize the LDS microfilm that already exists for several Indiana counties, as well as microfilming the original marriage books for all other counties. When the Indiana Marriage Indexing Project is completed, it will be placed online as a searchable database that is free to the public. Entries in the marriage index will link to a digitized version of the actual marriage records (including marriage applications, when available). To sign up to help with the Indiana Marriage Indexing Project, or to see some screenshots from the indexing software, please visit http://www.indgensoc.org/indexing.html. Questions can also be directed to the project's coordinator, Shirley Richison Fields, at indexing@indgensoc.org or phone (317) 209-9637. --------------------------------- TV dinner still cooling? 1. [SHENANDOAH] Turney marriage
    2. Mary Miller
    3. That is the one I wanted - and let me mention that it is not Michael Turner but Michael Turney.....your marriage book is the one where the name is mis-spelled. I know Michael Turney married Ellender Matheny daughter of Daniel Matheny....but another source is: A HISTORY OF SHENANDOAH COUNTY, VIRGINIA John W. Wayland he gives a list of early Shenandoah Marriage from the court records....lists date, bride, groom, and minister page 747 1785, Sept. 22 Michael Turney Elender Mathany John Koontz as minister. Now Michael Turney in 1783 Head of Families census is shown as son of Peter Turney, Daniel Turney living next door is also son of Peter Turney and he had earlier married Susan Matheny, another daughter of Daniel Matheny. The Turneys had earlier lived on North Branch of Shenandoah River near Edinburg/Woodstock - there are Koontz/Countz as neighbors there and I understand John Koontz often was the preacher at Woodstock. His church was White House and many of his congregation was from Culpepper Co Va since the church was located near a pass between Culpepper and Shenandoah Counties. This is why for so long researchers thought the Turneys were from Culpepper County - they were not - they came out of PA and settled about 1749 or 1750 near Edinburg/Woodstock. In 1760s they moved a bit south to near Red Banks and had as neighbors Byrd and Hawkins - Daniel Turney property became Green Hope or something like that. Anyway, this marriage is for a Turney - not a Turner There is a Michael Turner getting married about the same time in Romney (Hampshire Co?) to a Murphy and they soon left for KY.... more than you wanted to know Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robin Poeschek" <robinpoeschek@shaw.ca> To: <shenandoah@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 25, 2007 9:30 PM Subject: Re: [SHENANDOAH] Marriage Books > MATHANEY - > Elender & Michael Turner 19 Sep 1785; bond Danl Mathaney > > Robin > > -----Original Message----- > From: shenandoah-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:shenandoah-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mary Miller > Sent: Sunday, February 25, 2007 4:33 PM > To: shenandoah@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [SHENANDOAH] Marriage Books > > Do you find the name Matheny? > > Thank you > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > SHENANDOAH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SHENANDOAH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > >

Johathan John Jonathan Joselph Joseph Joseph Jr. Joseph the younger Price Robert Thomas some of these Edwards have several entries - there are 12 for Joseph, 6 for Thomas, etc. it is late but if you want me to give you all these Edwards tomorrow - please give a place to send it so we don't tie up the list. I think since this marriage you are looking at took place in 1787, why don't you look at the 1785 Head of Families census? That census was done by neighborhood so you can quickly see if people lived in same neighborhood. I found my marriage bond, 1787 and it looks like Juney/Janey Lehue DID marry Daniel MAIDEN - it even says her age was 23 and the bondsman Peter EDWARDS was Daniel's brother-in-law - it also says that they were neighbors. In looking at this bond (still haven't printed it or blown it up,lol) it. It looks like it says MAIDEN - but he just signed with a mark so I'm still not sure if it is Maddin or Madden or.... so my question to you - do you have a Peter EDWARDS with land? and if so who were his neighbors? > thank you for your time > > Julie in CA >
