I've enjoyed this list for awhile so far, but haven't yet submitted anything but one brief inquiry. Hoping someone can help with this problem. I'm searching for the families of John B. Portlock and Sarah (Sary) Dougherty who were married in Fauquier Co. 27 Dec 1791. John B. was born in Shenandoah according to his R.V. war pension application. Shenandoah town? County? or somewhere in the Shenandoah Valley? He must have had parents in the area in 1765. (b. 7 Jul. 1765). John was in Augusta Co. in 1789 turning in his wolf scalps; William Portlock turned in scalps in 1790 -- father or brother? We have no information on the Dougherty family, who were probably in Fauquier co. also. We would appreciate any info on Dougherty's or Portlocks in any of these areas who could possibly tie in. Thank you. Beverly Portlock [email protected]
Evening Shenandoah Researchers, I'm looking for any information on Susannah PATTON, the wife of Peter Schwartz and mother of the Schwartz/Black children who help in the early population of Shenandoah and married into many of the early families there. I have found a "Susannah Patton", but unfortunately the one that I have found was not the wife of Peter Schwartz. Any help which this most informative and helpful list might offer will be most appreciated. Thank you, Hope http://www.doitnow.com/~carnicle/genealogy

JOHN BAKER I am seeking the parents of JOHN BAKER who married MARY GRIFFITH, 13 June 1815, Shenandoah County, VA. I am also interested in the names of their children. Thank you for your help. Joe Baker
I have a Great Grandfather who was in the Flying Camp and here is what I have in my notes for him: The Flying Camp was a unit of the MD (Militia I believe) military during the Rev. War. Source is the book "Locating Your Revolutionary War Ancestor" by James C. Neagles & Lila L. Neagles, published by Everton Publishers, Logan, Utah. Regarding the term "flying camp" the books says on p.3 - "In the summer of 1776, the Continental Congress requested Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania to raise a special force of 10,000 militia who were to be highly mobile and ready to move wherever danger threatened in the middle colonies. These miltia, called the "Flying Camp," were a short-lived group. When their enlistments expired at the end of the year, the Flying Camp was disbanded. My ancestor, John BREEZE, enlisted two times and served from both Pennsylvania and Maryland. He was in Lancaster, PA when he married in 1775 and after the war, he was in Maryland. Hope this helps you a little! Jan Lund >We are desperate! Please write me if you have any clues at all, even >the tiniest one. Looking for these three ladies who all married into the Lionberger/many spellings, family. All marrying John Ulrich Lionberger (I, II, and III) Elizabeth Burckholter married about 1700, Barberry Bear married about 1732, and Barbara Boyer married about 1760. I have plenty of information on the Lionberger's (which I am willing to share) but none on these three great grandmothers of mine. All could have and probably did live in the area. Any information would be helpful. Thanks for any help. Sue K.
I want to share my feelings with everyone that has come in contact with my mother, Penny Fraley Richardson. In November she won two State awards. She was named Job Service Employer Committee's Account Executive of the Year. She also won the first annual Job Service Administrator's Double D Award. Yesterday we found out she has won a national award. The National Employer Committee will give her their Distinguished Service Award at a ceremony in Washington DC in March. My mom is the best. She was a single mother who worked two and three jobs at a time to raise three kids. She has worked hard and I would like her on-line family to send her congratulations. Please send them to: Penny Fraley Richardson PO Box 614 Marion Oh 43301-0614 What a great surprise for her...............Thanks to everyone who responds. My mother loves genealogy and always says she has met the best people since she started doing genealogy. Prove her right........ Angela Little

Thank you, for the reminder. Yes two great men whose honor cannot be sullied by time or revisionists. Lee, the greatest American, born to the tidewater aristocracy class, and Jackson, born to modest means in the upper Shenandoah valley. The Lee family was widely connected throughout the tidewater counties of VA. Many of us have connections to that family albeit distant and collateral. Lee, the last of the great noble men of America.
