    1. Chasteen family
    2. Hello, I am new to these lists, so I figured I would start out by posting a name and see what happens. I am know that in some areas there is a lot of history with this family, but right now I am at a standstill. I am looking for the parents of John Burton Chasteen/Chastain, Sr., b. 1822 in Lincoln Co.. TN. He married Sarah White, b. 1826, and after having 2 children they moved to MO. I have everything from my husband back to John. From there, I am at a total loss. Any leads out there? Thank you- Audri Badman-Chasteen

    3. Hello everyone, I'm part of a group of people, researching Clarks and all their related families. We've constructed 6 webpages giving (Direct Line Descendancy's) of the lines from which some of us descend and/or are researching. It's at http://members.tripod.com/ClarkCousins/ (Note: Many of us are cousins who have found each other online while researching Clarks.) If you're researching a Clark line, please drop by and see if we have any information on your Clark line. You might even be another cousin. If you only have one Clark in your family, you might want to drop by and try to find out if you're related to any of us. Keep in mind these are not complete charts, they contain only the basic direct line descendancy of that Clark researcher. If you feel you may have a connection to any of the lines, please contact us at [email protected] If your Clark line isn't there already, you can contribute your own Clark line for posting, if you like. It might help you find new family info or maybe even meet a cousin you never knew you had. 1. Clarke Co will settlement records?
    2. Littleton, Terry
    3. Hi all, I was wondering if there is any way to see if John W Littleton, who was named in the 1844 will of his father, William Littleton, who died in Clarke Co, actually received his 1/5 share of the estate? Is there any kind of record kept on settlement or disbursement pr estate proceeds? Why you ask??? I have always thought that his son, John W Littleton was my ggg gf, but the problem arises from the fact that MY ggg gf, John W Littleton, died in Ohio in 1838, 4 years before his father. Is it possible his father didn't know he had died 4 years earlier? This is my main stumbling block - finding the parents of my John W Littleton. He was married in Loudoun Co, VA and the above mentioned John W is the only one that appears there at the right time. Also, his uncle ended up in Ohio in the county next to where my John W did. Way to many coincidences, but this will thing has me stumped. If there was a court document that said the estate proceeds were redistributed in 1/4's because John had died in OH, it would cinch the case, but what are the changes of finding something like that SLIM. Anyone got any ideas on checking the will disbursement? Many thanks in advance - Terry Littleton (sponsor of [email protected])

I wondered about that. Someone said the dead children's share would go to their estate and be divided by the heirs. It was a way of insuring that the will would not later be broken by the families of the dead children. Any lawyers out there? Mary [email protected]

    1. WALLACE, CLAYTON, PRICE, & others of Virginia
    2. Cynthia Claytonroberts
    3. In my Culpeper, Virginia, CLAYTON line, I have a Dr. James Brown WALLACE 1792-1860 who married Sarah Ann Edwards CLAYTON, daughter of Philip CLAYTON. The family names of most of the property owners in the Will below, have been neighbors of the CLAYTONS in Culpeper for at least three generations. At some point in that timespan, children of these families married eachother. Familiar to anyone? Before my direct CLAYTON ancestor line moved to Kentucky, in the person of Sam'l CLAYTON, Jun'r, he married Cathrine PRICE, daughter of William PRICE in Shenandoah County, VA. This information was found in on p. 10 of SHENANDOAH COUNTY VIRGINIA MARRIAGE BONDS 1772-1850 by Bernice M. Ashby. Pub. by Virginia Book Company, Berryville, VA 1967 Clayton, Saml., Jr. ---Price, Cathrine. Dau. of Wm. May 24, 1786. I have no more knowledge of the PRICE family of Shenandoah County, VA, and sure would be interested in finding a connection here. The WALLACE mentioned is the son-in-law of my Sam'l's brother so I have not followed that line, just offering data I have on hand. 1. Scotland's Thistle
    2. James Wm. Wallace
    3. Why is the Thistle the national emblem of Scotland? The following is taken from "Nancy's Thistle Page" web site. Is this fact of fiction? I thought that they might have harvested the flower pod for making linen. James Wm. Wallace "Legend has it that, a very long time ago, when Scotland was ravaged by Viking invaders, a group of Scottish fighting men rested overnight in a field. Unknown to them, a raiding party prepared to attack them, under cover of darkness. As the Vikings approached the encamped Scots, it was their misfortune to creep barefoot through a patch of thistles -- letting out cries of pain as the thorns pierced their soles. The Scots, having been awakened by this hubbub, were alerted and able to fight off their attackers. From that day, the thistle has been the national emblem of Scotland and a symbol of all things Scottish. I proudly regard and cherish the thistle as an ancestral talisman of protection and luck."
