Hi, does anyone know of a web page where I can get a obit for Nancy Kagey-Sobotka who recently died in Baltimore, Md.
Hi, I am working on a revised edition of my book on the Kagey family history and am looking for "missing "cousins". If I have not previously spoken with you, please contact me. I know that there are several different branches of the Kagey family in the Valley area and would like to include as many as possible in my book. Thanks, Ken PS. Other family cousins welcome too.

I have been looking at the listing on the above cemetery. Samuel and Mary Swartz were my gg grandparents. Curiosity is about to get to me. It seems that everyone in the cemetery died on the 29th. Does anyone know if this is correct? <http://www.rootsweb.com/~vashenan/cem/swartzsl.html> Actually I have Samuel and Mary both dying the 29th - however my information shows Josiah died a March 23rd and Tobias died the January 24th. Thanks to anyone who can advise me if this is correct - or where I should pursue next. I haven't been able to find death certificates or obituaries on any of them. Dorothy Lowe Pleasanton, Texas

Hi all Any Ludwig/Ludwick researchers out there?? or anyone up for a puzzle? My goal: to find the parents of my gr gr grandfather (Joseph Ludwig) born 1810 in VA. He married Sarah BOUDE 1842 Shenandoah although it has been spelled wrong in the abstracts. I have ruled out some Ludwigs and am now trying to discover the name of the male child born abt 1810 of Philip Ludwig and Martha Dodson On the 1810 census there is George Lutewick 1 male 10-16, 3 males 16-26 and 1 male 45 and over (George) 1 female 10-16, 1 female 45 and over and close by Philip Lutewick 2 males under 10 (one is Jacob born 1808 and ? born 1810) 1 male 26-46 (Philip) 1 female 26-45 (Martha Dodson) They married Aug 1805 in Shenandoah Joseph Lutewick 1 male 26-45 (Joseph); 1 female under 10 and 1 female 26-45 I haven't found a marriage of a Joseph Ludwig in Shenadoah for this time period There is a Joseph Ludwig and a Catharina having children baptized in 1800, 1815 and 1817 Are Philip and Joseph sons of George? or ?? A George Ludwig was on the 1789 and 1799 tax lists in 1789, 1 white male over 16--must be George in 1799 3 white males over 16 George and.....?? in 1820 George is living alone and 45 and over which would make him at least 55+ born 1765 or earlier next to him a Joseph 2 males under 10, 1 male 16-26 (can't be the Joseph from 1810 census) 1 female 16-26 and not too far away a Joel Ludwig 2 males under 10, 1 male 26-45 3 females under 10, 1 female 10-16, 1 female 26-45 and near him Philip Ludwig 3 males under 10, 2 males 10-16, 1 male 26-45 (Philip) 2 females under 10, 1 female 26-45 (Martha Dodson) I have followed up on this Philip and the 1830 census leads to more mystery Barbara Brea CA
Many German-language church records have been published for the German Lutheran and Reformed congregations of the Old Pine Church at Mill Creek and the Zion-Pine Church at Stony Creek (ed. Klaus Wust). But the records in his books stop at 1827-28, when the church began using the English language. Would anyone know if any of the English-language records from Zion-Pine have been published? A researcher by the name of Harry Long found some Lindamood baptismal records for me from 1829-31 from "Zion Lutheran at Swover Creek" (Shen. Co.). He said they had been transcribed onto some kind of ancient floppy disc, and I don't know where they or the original entries would be available. Is there a Lutheran archives in the area that might house these records? Specific names and dates I'm looking for are: Baptism for Frances/Fanny Ruble, ca 1806. Marriage for Abraham Lindamood & Fanny Ruble, 10 Feb 1829 (looking for her parents, they're not mentioned on the marriage bond). Baptism for Edmond Lindamood, ca Oct. 1835. Thanks, Rita
Judy, What is the address of the website that talks about this church? Are the Peaked Mountain Church records you found published? I'm somewhat familiar with the Zion-Pine German/Reformed congregation at Stony Creek, and wonder if the second church you mention is connected. I believe Johann Schwarbach minstered to the Zion-Pine congregation, and other scattered groups of Lutherans in the area. The Zion-Pine Church records, however, don't begin until 1783, although supposedly its origins were earlier. I'm looking for missing records for Lindemuth and Ruble from the early 1800s. (Re-posted from other lists--sorry if there's a repeat) Looking to see if anyone can give me any information on what used to be known as the "Peaked Mountain Church" of Rockingham. I've found some Peaked Mountain Church Records dating in the 1700s which list my Harmon/Herrmann family, but cannot find if the church still stands today. Several postings suggest the church changed it's name to Massanutten Church. Does anyone have Cherokee links in Virginia with a possible tie to the German settlements in Shenandoah Valley/Blue Ridge Mountains? Looking at early 1700s. As for the location of the church, this is what the site says: A comment concerning the Peaked Mountain Church Records say that "This record is one of the oldest and most important German record books to be found in the upper part of the Shenandoah Valley. It contains much historical and genealogical information about the early German Reformed and Lutheran settlers in Rockingham county, which cannot be found anywhere else." As for the location of the church, this is what the site says: The first church, mentioned in April, 1762, was located near the mill-race of Mr. Herrmann (Nos. 40 and 64). The congregation also had a school in 1762, because the Lutheran schoolmaster, Gottfried Christian Leuthmanns Leonhardt, is mentioned (No. 43) in that year. The second church was dedicated on October 31, 1769, by the Lutheran pastor, the Rev. John Schwarbach. On October 31, 1769, and agreement was signed by forty-five persons, according to which the church to be a union church of Reformed and Lutheran people. The second church was located near the Stony Creek. The third church was dedicated, according to a later record, on May 27, 1804. This building was occupied jointly by the Reformed and Lutherans till recently, when the Reformed people separated and erected a new church, known as "Brown Memorial Reformed Church", in honor of one of their former pastors. It is located at McGaheysville, Va. Can anyone help? Thanks!! Judy OtterRiver.com Harmon Page: geocities.com/judygreyhorse/harmon/harmon.html
Posting certain information on the Internet; prohibitions. Provides that beginning July 1, 2003, no state agency or court clerk shall post on a state agency or court-controlled website any document that contains the following information: (i) an actual signature; (ii) a social security number; (iii) a date of birth identified with a particular person; (iv) the maiden name of a person's parent so as to be identified with a particular person; (v) any financial account number or numbers; or (vi) the name and age of any minor child. Every agency and every court clerk that posts any document on a state agency or court-controlled website may require that any party who files documents in any form with such agency or clerk provide, in addition to the original document, a redacted copy of such documents that excises the information prohibited. Failure to provide such redacted copy shall relieve the agency or court clerk of any liability or responsibility in the event that such information is posted on a state agency or court-controlled website. Each such agency and clerk shall post notice that (i) includes a list of the documents routinely posted on its website, (ii) the information listed shall be redacted from such documents, and (iii) such documents are for informational purposes only. Such notice shall indicate the location of the original document. The bill provides that nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit access to any original document as provided by law nor shall it apply to posting historical, genealogical, interpretive, or educational documents and information about historic persons and events.
Please forgive me if you receive more than one of this message as a result of being subscribed to more than one mailing list. It's an important enough issue to both genealogists and the public in general that we should get the word out quickly. If the increasing trend towards closure of public records throughout the country is of concern to you, be sure to tune in to the DearMYRTLE internet radio show discussing the topic TONIGHT by visiting www.DearMYRTLE.com and call the show 1-877-638-7234 between 9-10 p.m.Eastern Standard Time in US. Below is the post relating details of the show and a post Myrtle received regarding proposed legislation now in Indiana, following on the heals of the one that came up and passed in the VA House the other day. There's another one proposed in Missouri: http://www.house.state.mo.us/bills03/member/mem115.htm It's not too late to stop either of these bills if everyone takes action. While protecting ourselves against identity theft is essential, both the VA bill (http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/VAALBEMA/) (text of VA bill attached at end of this post) and the IN bill (http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/INHENRY/2003-02) http://www.in.gov/legislative/bills/2003/IN/IN1540.1.html are very poorly written and ambiguous, giving up much more than is necessary for reasonable and adequate protection of privacy against identity theft. The genealogy community must NOT be naive and think that we can simply sit back and blindly trust the "good intentions" of the people sponsoring such bills. Sometimes good intentions are enough; but when it comes to law, good intentions carried out with incompetence can be devastating. Regardless of the writer's intent, laws are carried out exactly according to what they actually say, only to the limits or with the intentions that are clearly and unmistakenly written therein. If the wording of the law is broad and vague enough to allow very strict limitations to access, you can bet that such strict limitations will ultimately occur. Likewise as genealogists, sitting by and saying "that's not my state, it's not my concern" is extremely foolish, because (1) we know our ancestors may leave us searching for their records anywhere; (2) every such law that is passed anywhere sets precedent for more to be passed;and (3) genealogy or not, these laws seriously restrict the freedoms on which our country was founded and for which our mothers have sent their sons (and now daughters) to die in defense thereof for over 200 years. I don't want to give the impression that I'm a fanatic, but the basic scenario of naive people blindly trusting the "intent" of their leaders and allowing certain restrictive laws to be passed while everyone stood by and did nothing, eventually resulted in the European holocaust of the Jews, not to mention the countless other human tragedies in history! The time to stop such serious restrictions is BEFORE the laws are enacted, not later. Please help spread the word about this critical matter; tune into www.DearMYRTLE.com tonight from 9-10 p.m.EST US; and contact the legislators of any state considering such legislation to make it clear that you are against it for very good reasons.
