    1. Deeds and Armentrout
    2. My ggg grandparents John Deeds b. 1784 and Barbara Armentrout b. 27 Feb 1787 were married in Rockingham Co. 21 Feb 1805. I have hit a brick wall trying to find parents of John Deeds. I believe Barbara's parents were Heinrich "Henry" Ermentraudt (Armentrout) and Elizabeth Argenbright. If you have any of this information or a suggestion on where the information might be found I would love to here from you. Patty

    2. Carol Digby
    3. I have posted this message to several sources, hoping someone has an answer. There seems to be a paper trail for those who have bought and sold land, made wills. etc. Where does one go to find a relative who probably was dirt poor, and never did any lthing that would involve paper work? Some people have researched their families so thoroughly, that they know what they had for breakfast. I can't even determine my g-g-g-grandfather's first name or where he is buried. I just can't believe they all lived up in the mountains, and never had any contact with the world. CAn someone point into which direction I should search? I'd be grateful for any pointers. Carol

    3. -----Original Message----- From: Donovan Yingst [mailto:alidon@rmci.net] Sent: Monday, August 11, 2003 4:16 PM To: VASHENAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: {not a subscriber} EARLY DOBKINS OCCURRENCES EARLY DOBKINS OCCURRENCES I have been researching my mothers DOBKINS line since about 1989, trying to verify the parents of my ggg-grandfather, Thomas D. DOBKINS. So far, I have not been able to positively identify his parents, even though I have gathered a great deal of information from various sources and references. Several years ago, I compiled basic information into EARLY DOBKINS OCCURRENCES-- http://home.rmci.net/dyingst/earlydob.htm. The original compilation arranged the entries by locality; that is, State and/or Country. Now, I have provided an additional list ordered by Name. My intent here is to share the occurrences and sources for the benefit of DOBKINS researchers; not to make any interpretations or inferences about possible or probable family relationships. I have omitted most occurrences after Thomas moved to MO in 1817 as I am principally interested in tracking down his ancestors in TN and VA and, also, in Great Britain where I think the family line originated. I would appreciate hearing from anyone that might have additional information up to and during the time period covered in the listing that might assist me and others in our research. Donovan

    1. Bowmans In the Shenadoah Valley
    2. I still have about 5 of the original 100 copies my book on Cornelius Bowman and his ancestors and descendants. If you would like a copy please send a check in the amount of $25 to me at: Edward L. Bowman, Attorney at Law 4800 Clearview Drive Bartlesville, OK 74006 Please include your mailing address and your email address. If you are not satisfied with the book I will refund your money if you return it undamaged within three days after you receive it. The book still needs some editing but my plan is to get the first version out in circulation so that I can receive comments and edit it for commercial publication. The work is 8/12 by 11 spiral bound printed by a print shop. It includes over 311 pages of text, 48 photos, and 31 copies of documents. The work provides evidence for the proposition that about 1763 Cornelius lived near Harrisonburg VA and that he was a descendant of Joris Jacobsen Bowman who was living in the New Netherlands by about 1651. There is also a hint that Joris Jacobsen was the son of a Jacob Pieterszen who was in the New Netherlands by 1652. I have not established just when Joris came to America. It is possible that Joris was not an immigrant but that instead that his father was the immigrant who was among the earliest settlers in the New Netherlands and on Long Island. It appears that my branch of the family of Joris Jacobsen migrated from Long Island to Staten Island to New Brunswick NJ to Readington NJ to Harrisonburg VA. It is believed that Cornelius Bowman (b abt 1740) married Susannah Pointer (Poynter?) or Painter about 1764 at the Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church near Harrisonburg VA. The book discusses a number of other Bowman families who lived in the Shenadoah Valley and other places in VA in the 1700's and it follows Cornelius from Abbotts Creek in NC to near Lenoir NC in the 1770's to Watauga(now TN) about 1782, then to KY by about 1795. It discusses his children and their children. It then takes off on my branch of the family which comes from Cornelius's son Rev. Thomas Bowman. Rev. Thomas's Bowman's son Absalom, my gg grandfather, moved from KY to AR or MO about the time of the Civil War. My great grandfather James Levi (or Lee) married in Denton County TX and then later moved to near Stillwater OK. The book mentions other Bowman's, some related and some not related, who lived in AR, TX and OK about the same time as my ancestors were in those areas. Some other names mentioned include: Boone/Van Meter/ Scholl/ Linkhorn (Lincoln)/Van Pelt/ Denton/ Staats/ Bodine/Sevier/Bird/McDowell/Ruddell/Hite/Stover/Potter/Painter/Pointer/ Poynter/Denton/Keller/Hottel/Hunt/Harrison/McBride/Brock/Huffman/Moore/ Gabbard/Smith/Lynch/Beeler/Gay/Hamilton/Walkup/Isaacs/Lenoir/Dyer/Combs/Love/ Sebourn/Anderson/Norris/Lawson/Linville/Hanks/Tipton/George Rogers Clark/Gabriel Jones Edbow@aol.com
