    3. Is there an atlas or other map showing land owned in Shenandoah Co. in the mid-1800's? Jacob Peer owned land on North Mt. near Narrow Passage Creek, and I'm hoping to be able to identify the location. Thanks, Ruth

    1. RE:Taylor/a profession, (question regarding personal property tax)
    2. Deborah Johnson
    3. It could very likely be the mother's maiden name, used as a middle name. This was sometimes done, as was using the mother's father's first name for the oldest male child. Here's a doozy for an example, one of my lines is Sheppard, one of my grandfather's sisters, can't recall which number back it is, married a Sheppard cousin, they named their oldest son, Sheppard, her maiden name, hence, his name was Sheppard Sheppard. I've also come across many between my own line and doing lookups, where the middle name of the child is in fact the maiden name of the mother. 3. I had considered tailor/taylor(as a profession), but I didn't see any other professions named in these particular records. In fact, there are multiple John Williams and William Williams with no indication as to profession or relation. The reason I asked this question, the person I am looking for married into a Taylor family. Actually, his wife's mother's maiden name was Taylor. This ancestor also gave one of his sons the middle name Taylor, I assume after his inlaws. I just wondered if it meant anything, such as he lived on the Taylor property, or worked the Taylor farm. In looking at these records, I was hoping to narrow down his parentage. The mention of Taylor caught my eye. Also, it is in proper name form (capitalized) "Taylor" rather than "taylor". _________________________________________________________________ Don’t worry if your Inbox will max out while you are enjoying the holidays. 1. Just in case, don't open "Life is Beaut...Verified.
    2. I am not at work so had time to look this up on Hoaxbusters. Another watch out for this file hoax. This time it is a PowerPoint presentation. Now, a power point presentation could contain a virus, just like Word and Excel so always check them with an antivirus program before opening a downloaded file and turn off auto-execution of included macros. This information arrived this morning, from Microsoft and Norton. Please send it to everybody you know who accesses the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless email with a PowerPoint presentation called "Life is beautiful.pps." If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, and delete it immediately. If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying: "It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful", subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, email and password. This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. WE NEED TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO STOP THIS VIRUS. UOL has already confirmed its dangerousness, and the antivirus Softs are not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself "life owner", and who aims to destroying domestic PCs and who also fights Microsoft in court! That's why it comes disguised with extension pps. He fights in court for the Windows-XP patent. MAKE A COPY OF THIS EMAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.

    1. question re: personal property tax listings
    2. BRENDA & CURTIS
    3. I was wondering if anyone can answer this question. I was viewing the personal property tax records for Shenandoah Co. for the 1820-30's and one entry read like this: Williams, Thomas (Taylor) What does the "Taylor" in brackets mean? There were other entries such as "Williams, John (of Peter) or Williams, Simon (of Wm. C.). I believe these to mean that this John is the son of Peter, and Simon is son of William C. But what does (Taylor) indicate? It is written that way for multiple years, and never says (of Taylor), just (Taylor) - I assume this is a surname?. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

    2. Claude Fox
    3. I'm trying to find out more about Henry T. Gordon (b. 1846) of Sangersville, Augusta County, Virginia. He was married about 1870 to a Martha E. What was her maiden name? They had children: Florance Margaret Gordon (my gg grandmother Maggie), John F. Gordon, and Charles E. Gordon. Margaret Florance Gordon married Harry Lee Davis in Harrisonburg. Henry was apparently a very young soldier in the Civil War. Family Genealogy: http://www.dotcomsolution.com/coates
