I believe it is confirmed that Roderick Shelton, sometimes referred to as Roderick I, had an Indian consort who came to him to Shelton Laurel from Pennsylvania. This "Indian maiden" had a son by Roderick who later took the surname of his stepfather. This son was known as William "Duck" Franklin. I have corresponded with a person who claims descent from Duck Franklin. I don't have the dates for this. I also won't presume to try to give any more on that line, but we may hear from this descendant. I think she's still on this list. This Roderick legally married Sarah Ursula Briggs and is of the Ralph Shelton/Middlesex line. My line (SH-60) goes back to George Washington Shelton, b. 1824 Shelton Laurel. We believe we are descended from Roderick and Sarah Briggs Shelton but don't have a paper trail to prove it.
