I believe he ties in to the Pittsylvania/Halifax Davidsons. Records in Dickson Co., TN. and later probate records in Perry Co., TN and Barry, Christian, Green counties of Missouri clearly document a relatedness between the Davidson, Shelton and Bunch lines. He definitely has ties to the Shelton line (land records in Perry Co.). These documents confirm (for me) the relationship of Levi Davidson (1799-1851) of Perry Co., TN to Josiah Davidson (1790-ca1880) of Dickson Co., TN. There is also a connection to the Joseph Davidson of Halifax. I've seen records that Abraham, Joseph (Dickson TN) and John are brothers. But those records indicate that John went to Alabama (I think). I've looked at this John in Alabama and I can't seem to get it to "compute." I know there was a John Davidson in Perry Co., TN in 1820 - over 45 years of age. Living next to David Bunch.
