Shelton's parents were 'foreign born". Didn't you say that? How do we know that? I also recall a suit in McMinn, Tenn ( though I do not have the documents) that one William Dooley was charging one Samuel Shelton ( ca 1820)a neighbor with running off to Missouri with his young wife Mourning Dooley and I think a couple kids. I'd love to check in Tenn. to find if this is truth. I believe you also found where this very same Sam'l was involved in a slander suit in Franklin county ca. 1828 regarding some event in Tenn. I'd love it if some of our relatives in Tennesee would run down this rumor and see if Jesse D. was one of those youngsters that 'fled' to Missouri with Samuel and Mourning or if this is all talk.
