This is in reply to the messages posted by Janet Hunter and Keith Shelton on 11/29/05 re Sheltons in Todd Co., KY. I looked up these Sheltons on my database and found the following: Moses Hurt Shelton (b. Mar. 20, 1804, Pittsylvania Co., VA; d. Oct. 24, 1869, Lawrence Co., MO) m. Nancy Clark Shelton, d/o Crispen Robertson Shelton & Mary Waller. Moses H. was the s/o Charles Coleman Shelton (b. 1772; d. 1855, Todd Co., KY) and Elizabeth Shelton (b. 1770, Pittsylvania Co., VA; d. 1850). Lettice B. Shelton, d/o Coleman & Elizabeth Shelton, m. William Preston Shelton, s/o Tunstall W. Shelton & Fannie Payne. Here my records differ from Keith's in that I have his name as WILLIAM Preston Shelton instead of JOHN Preston Shelton. Elizabeth Shelton, d/o Coleman & Elizabeth Shelton, m. Matthew Clay Shelton, s/o Tunstall W. Shelton & Fannie Payne. I also found Ophelia D. Shelton listed as a daughter of Tunstall W. Shelton & Fannie Payne, but did not have a husband listed for her. Keith, would you be willing to share her husband's first name so that I can add it to my records? Janet, I think the William P. Shelton listed at #413 in the 1850 Todd Co., KY census is William Preston Shelton and wife Lettice B. Shelton. I have not done a lot of research on these Sheltons as they are not in my direct line. I am descended from Ralph Shelton through son Crispen, through his son, Lewis Shelton. My line went further south---into SC, then GA, then AL, then MS, then AR, then TX. I, and my parents (my mother was a Shelton), did not make it to MO until 1965. Hope to hear from one of you soon. Good luck and good hunting.
