Whereas KING CHARLES II by letters patent under the Great Seal of England granted JOHN, Lord Carteret, & 7 others, a tract of land in America now called Carolina, the inheritance of which was vested in the Lords Proprs.; & whereas they agreed that a Barony of 12,000 a., English measure, on the river May, adjoining the Barony of JOHN DAWSON, ESQ., should be granted to JOHN, Lord Carteret, & the conveyance was made 5 Dec. 1718, & whereas 7 of the Lords Proprs., about 1729 surrendered their title to 7 parts (the whole divided into 8) to KING GEORGE II, & to secure said surrender an Act of Parliament was passed, entitled "An Act for Establishing an Agreement with 7 of the Lords Proprs. of Carolina for ye surrender of their title & interest in that Province to his Majesty" in which Act was a clause for reserving to Lord Carteret his 8th share; now he sells to ROBERTS.
