It is dated October 21, 1800, and probated June 14, 1801. In his will "Susannah" is named as his wife. His first wife, Elizabeth Rogers was so named in the list of legatees in settlement of the estate of her father, Robert Rogers, as "William Shelton and Elizabeth, his wife one of the daughters of Robert Rogers", Goochland County Deed Book 4, page 155. To refute Wood's 'History of Albermarle County' as to Elizabeth Rogers being wife of William Shelton of Albermarle, see Albermarle County Deed Book 2, page 124. Willilam inherited from his brother, Jospeh, land in Louisa County on Owen's Creek, known as "Red House" plantation. William devised it to 2nd his wife, Susannah and son, William, Jr.,for their life. Then it was to go to John "Merchant" Shelton who died 1828 before William, Jr. John Devised to his son William "Minor", d. 1847. William, Jr. died in 1847 too so William "Minor" Shelton realized ownership only a short while, if any. William "Minor" died intestate and his eldest son, Walter Coles Shelton, I, was appointed by the Louisa Court to administer his father's estate. Walter Coles Shelton, I, sold to John Blair Shelton on February 26, 1848 (Deed Book AA, page 47, Louisa County) the tract known as "Red House" consisting of 428 l/4 acres for $5,351.56.
