I am just now getting back into the Sheltons after giving up for a time. Here is the link to my family homepage: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/c/h/Robert-L-Schneider/index.html As I mentioned, I did get the pension papers for Sarah Shelton Rich, etc. It didn't answer the question concerning her exact place of birth. Interestingly, it didn't include anything about David Rich's place of birth, though the pension concerned his widow! It did give many hints that Sarah Shelton was not a woman with a high reputation in the community. Nothing specific, but she was known as a woman who couldn't always be counted on. I have gotten into a few LDS microfilms from Jackson County IN. My search of the deed index did yield a few entries for the Jarvis and Weathers family. (If I'm not mistaken, and I definitely could be, I believe that family has roots in Nelson County, KY.) Jackson County IN Index to Deeds 1816-1844 1)Jarvis, Caleb & wife grantees (no grantor listed, don't understand) July, 1836 Book D, page 360; and Feb., 1838, Book E, page 297. 2)Jacob R. Rich & wife; fee John Weathers, 12/24/1838, Book F page 209. 3)John Weathers & wife; fee Abraham Nutter, 5/1829; Book B page 499. 4)fee William Weather for Johnson and Smith & wives; 8/1831, Book C, page 152. 5)fee Isaac Weathers for Johnson & Smith & wives; 8/1831; Book C page 196. 6)Eli Shelton et. al. fee Robert Weathers 6/1848; Book K, page 139. [4 more transactions with the same reference, just different parcels of ground.] 7)Eli Shelton et. al. fee Robert Weathers June, 1848; Book K, page 148. 8)Eli Shelton & wife fee David Garriott, 2/1852, Book N page 115. 9)Shelton, J.H. & wife fee J. H. Vastlage Feb., 1853, Book N, page 593. [Two transactions under this reference involving 200 acres.] 10)fee Shelton, Eli & wife for Frank Emerson, 11/1854, Book O, page 554. 11)fee Shelton, Eli & wife for W.E. Jarvis & wife, June, 1854; Book O, page 711. 12)Shelton, Henly & wife fee Wm. Schwine Jr. , August, 1854; Book O page 716. I am really anxious to see Civil War service papers for these Sheltons. I believe that if I could get a specific location for one of them, I could break this family. An intriguing thing for me is the name Eli. Sarah named a child Eli. It could be that Eli was the father's name. If so, it might be easy to locate this family in earlier censuses. Hope this helps!
