    1. [SHELTON] Who are Spencer & Robert?

    3. Yesterday I posted a link to some photos of some of Spencer Shelton's Cherokee relatives along with some info identifying the relationships of the photos to Spencer.  Robert & Spencer both show up on early Cherokee records (before the Trail of Tears) and some of their descendants apparently stayed on because they show up later on in Oklahoma.    The big question, of course, is to which Shelton line do they belong?  My own opinion is based purely on speculation & circumstantial evidence.  How I would love to find one of the male Shelton descendants and request a dna sample.  Meanwhile, I put the question out to the forum to find out if anybody has yet uncovered any info telling us more.  I also wrote Cherokee Heritage thanking them for the photos.  They might know more since whomever shared the photos with them might also be Spencer's kin.   Sheila Shelton Gibson

    3. Sheila, I'm sure you know that Roderick Shelton I, in addition to his legal marriage to Ursula Briggs, had an "Indian maiden" on the side by whom he sired offspring. This woman, whom he called her Mary Glomdalglich after a character in Gulliver's Travels, later married William Franklin and her children by Roderick took the name Franklin. A DNA test of this line of Franklins would be interesting. I have Cherokee ancestry, but not through Shelton to my knowledge: this is not my line. Of course, I speak only of the Shelton line that I know. I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.
