This appears to be my family. I think the Chilton and Shelton lines are separate lines............this is what DNA testing indicates............. My line went by Shelton for over 200 years but match the DNA of early Chiltons........ I don't know the exact info on how my line ties in but my great, great grandfather was born in Pittsylvania County , Va in 1804. His father is believed to be named George. This line of Chilton/Sheltons seem to have started going by Shelton in the middle to late 1700's. This Chilton/Shelton group also appears in Halifax Va. and in North Carolina and many places in Virginia. I suspect a connection to Mark Chilton/Shelton but so far have found records lacking in information. Bennet is very definitely a Chilton/Shelton name. Seems this line (if I remember correctly) descended from an early Thomas.......I can give you more on this Bennett connection.........There are some from this Bennett line that migrated to Tn. My Chilton/Sheltonline also went into Tn. There is a Joel Shelton who is in Dickson County Tn. (where some of this line appeared to be and the descendants have matching DNA)) who married a Mary Davidson ......don't know if it is connected with the same Davidsons you mention or not. I can check it out but I think some of Bennett's descendants show up in Williamson County, Tn. and in another county there. I have more information on them, just have to find it. It is also a possiblity that some of the Chiltons and Sheltons inter-married at some point. There are a lot of Davidson's in Dickson County Tn. early and also other counties in Tn. Hope to hear back from you.
