Surnames: Shelton, Ruffin, Dugar Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/wNHBAIB/2949 Message Board Post: According to family tradition, William Ruffin was a Major on the Staff of General Andrew Jackson during the Battle of New Orleans. He eventually married three women: Margaret Boswell Dugar by whom he had two children and then he married Eleanor Shelton who died and so he married her sister, Mary Shelton. Both of these SHELTON women were daughters of WALTER SHELTON. I know nothing about Walter's line of descent. He would have had to be born, possibly, in the 1770's or earlier. William Ruffin was born in King William County, Virginia but ended up settling in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. I do not know if he married the Shelton Sisters in Tennessee or in Virginia. Ruffin went on to be President of the power company that brought gas illumination to Memphis, Tennessee. This is a personal interest quest -- as William Ruffin and wives 2 and 3, the Shelton sisters, never had children with him.
