Dear Dean, Like your Grandmother, my father, who grew up in Southern Illinois and had a Great-Grandmother with the maiden name of Shelton, always figured (and rather hoped, I think) that our line was connected to the Shelton Gang. Therefore, over the years I've compiled info on the ancestors of the Shelton brothers. I discovered that if my line was connected, it was before the William and Hannah Yates Shelton listed below. I hope this helps. Phyllis, The 37 marker is an excellent choice for Y-DNA. Your male tester must have the last name of Shelton. Hopefully the results will place you into an existing Shelton line and give you some more history. I have been wanting to find a Shelton in our line, and think I can do this ------ and get him to do the DNA. Would the 37 marker (now $119) be a good one to do. (My sister in law and I would be paying for this.) Therefore, would someone advise about which one to go for. Thanks. The Sheltons I search are in Kentucky -- Owen / Gallatin / Carroll counties. William Hayden Shelton, whose father I believe to be Frederick, was born 1839 in Owen Co. I have the line solid coming forward......................BUT can't get behind them. Would hope the DNA might give light as to whom we connect before 1839. Phyllis Raker
Has anyone done DNA testing for the Shelton's in Muhlenberg & Todd Counties in Kentucky? Thanks in advance, Linda in Kentucky
Ever trying to break thru my stubborn Shelton brick wall..... often when I get following a clue I bump into lines going back to Middlesex Ralph. DNA reveals this is not my line. I am wondering..... has anybody else wondered...... We know of Sheltons marrying Sheltons back in Pittsylvania area. Could it be perhaps that some of what folks used to think was intermarriage really was not? In other words, if you did not know a persons DNA only his surname you might be more inclined to think that a Shelton marrying a Shelton would be "intermarriage". I've having a hard time trying to put my question into words...... Since my own (what look to be) good leads end up pointing to Middlesex Ralph line..... do we know if any of these marrying any other Shelton DNA lines? I realize the Y chrom will follow the male line. I wonder if any of these folks married into the Ralph Shelton/Mary Pollard line??? Anybody know? Sheila
