Elizabeth Shelton Hill (daughter of Josiah Shelton and Nancy Ross) was on the 1880 census with her son Wiley W. Hill in Frankfort, Franklin Co., IL. Do we know of anymore of the Henderson and Hopkins County Shelton Gang that moved to that area? By 1900 his family had moved to Pomona, Jackson Co., IL. I descend from two of Josiah & Nancy's daughters. At this time there is no evidence of any connection to the Shelton Gang of Illinois. To the best of my knowledge the Shelton Gang can be documented back to William Shelton (of Dan River) and Hannah Yates and there it hits the brick wall. This is in detail on Tina Hall's web site. My mother always told me there were two Shelton family lines in SO IL ... and ours were not the gangsters (even though my grandfather would sometimes joke that we were!) - my direct line came from the MO Ozark area. On the Shelton surname message board, a few years back, a woman named Cathy Wayman posted the following information about the Shelton Gang Genealogy.
