Hi Anne: Yes to a small extent I have checked and found just about all available information on my Howell side of the family to the extent as FOLLOWS: The furtherest back anyone, that I know of has gone back is to Ethelred Edward Howell reported to have been born in Wales in either 1635 or 1668. He had 3 sons, one of which was Henry, born 1693, at the South Quay, James (Town) City. Henry marries and later moves into North Carolina into what was then Dobbs County, later split into Wayne. Some say some of his children were born in Nansemond County, VA Jamestown, etc). He had many children to include (THIS IS FROM MEMORY AS I DO NOT HAVE DIRECT ACCESS TO MY DATA AT THIS TIME) Admiral, Major, Maria America to name a few. Henry's wife dies around 1768-1770 time4 frame., He marries a young 17 year old lady named Rachel Boyet ( has been spelled several ways). The Boyet Family were from France and I think they removed from there because of their religious beliefs ( They were reported as HUGUNAUT sp?) Henry and Rachel have 3 sons, one of which was John H., born 1777 in Wayne, NC. John marries an Susan or Susannah Croom. Some have thought the name was spelled as Crumb, which is the middle name of Crumb; I do not think this to be correct because naming conventions of that time would have named some of their middle names as that of their mother's maiden name of Croom. They have several children of which the my line descends from Jesse C. (born about 1800) Jesse marries a lady with the maiden name of OLIVER from Kentucky. Jesse's first son is then named John Oliver Howell and is born in about 1825 in Tennessee in I think Giles County, later splint off into Maury County. Then my great Grandfather, William Allen Boyd Howell, was born in 1846. William then marries a Civil War Widow with 3 children in 1866. As a side note these 3 children retain their father's last name for the rest of their lives. I mention this because it was common for the children of a widow to assume the last name of their new father. I have seen their grave stones and know this to be true. William and his family then move into Washington County, IL shortly after 1870 or so. I have seen their Tennessee 1870 census report, where William was listed as Boyd. They have one son born in IL, and must have arrived in Travis County, Texas in about 1877 as my grandfather was born in 1878 at Manor, Travis, TX. At or about this time John Oliver and Eliza move into the same area. All in all William had 3 wives and about 12 children, not including his first wife's 3 children. I at one time had pictures of the grave markers for William, 2 of his wives, his father and mother, and an Oliver relative at the Manor City Cemetery, Travis County,, just South East of Austin, TX. My grandfather Art Howell married Martha Margret Norvell in 1898. My father Boyd Norvell Howell was the 2nd son and was born in 1907. He passed in 1996 at age 79. My Mother was also 79 when she passed 5 years later, Both at Big Spring, Howard, Texas. I have 2 brothers who were born in 1935 and 1937. I was born in 1932 and will celebrate my 76th this Sunday. My younger brother passed away at age 55, also at Big Spring. I have been married two times. Lastly more than 50 years to Marcyl Ann Dickerson of West Allis, WI. I had 2 children that are now 55 and 54 years of age. Our daughter and her 2 girls live about 9 miles from here. Our Son lives in Oregon with his family. He has a total of 5 daughters plus one step daughter. We did have one grandson, but her was killed in an auto accident at age 18. This will take you a while to digest and I will attempt to get a rich text document to you in the next 30 days or so which contains all I know. A rich text document is a document converted from a family history mode document to a neutral type script. I must admit that I have barely just scratched the bare surface with this email. I do have some 70 pages of names somewhere and that is what I will attempt to get to you as indicated.     3. Weldon, Have you researched your Howell line? I would be very much interested in this. My gr-grandfather Andrew Jackson Shelton m. Mary Howell c1870 in Erwin, TN. Mary Howell was a daughter of Joseph Howell and Hannah Caroline Gibbs. We know little about Joseph or Hannah. We believe that there parents were from the same area, that is NE Tennessee or the border areas between SW Virginia and NE Tennessee, or perhaps SW Kentucky. Have you had Y-DNA testing on your Howell line. Most of these Rootsweb groups are offering steep discounts on test during the holiday season. I can't do as a female. I am a member of the Howell list, but our line daughtered out with Mary Howell and we know no male Howells. Andrew Jackson Shelton was a son of George Washington Shelton b. 1824 in Madison Co. I never met her barely knew my fathers, father even forgot his name william or james or something, he worked with the illinois central railroad in chicago Ill. for many years. we are currently researching now the sheltons in midwest.
