I'm not sure which county but everyone seems to believe he was born in Greenville Tennesse and later moved to Shelton Laurel Community of Madison County in NC when his parents passed away. His fathers name was Everett and his mothers name was Martha. My grandfathers name was William Hayse Shelton born in November 1915. I know he had brothers named Paul, Jeff, Baxter and sisters Flori or Florence maybe and a few more brothers as well. I am trying to organize a family reunion in Sept. of this year on Labor Day weekend and am trying to locate as many of our lost relatives as possible and hopefully start an long over due family tree. Any info at all would be benifical to me if you think our families maybe related in any way. I look forward to hearing from you soon. In the wagon with him was Hattie, his wife, Atlas, Ernest, Nara, and Pearl. After they arrived in Moyer, Oklahoma, they added five more children to their family. Their son, Orville, was killed in the hedgerows in France during WW II. Unfortunately, George Andrew was fatally injured by a falling tree and died in Jan. of 1910. My line is Ernest who was born in Perry County, Tenn. Ernest became a rural mail carrier in Hugo, Oklahoma for 34 years. Are you familiar with this line of the family or did you have additional questions? I wrote about the family for my hometown newspaper, The Hugo Daily News, for a six month period so I have some information and would be glad to share. One of his sons, Woodlief Thomas(1834-1902) was my gg-grandfather. I have researched quite a bit on Shepard and Rosina Chapman Shelton but have not heard if any of these Shelton researchers have participated in the DNA study. (My brother and I do not have the Shelton last name) I do believe the parents of Shepard to be William (of VA) and Martisha Taylor Shelton. I have no definite information as to his siblings other than his brother, Woodlief (1785/87) who married Sarah Moore. Woodlief Thomas and Shepard traveled to Jackson Co. AL from NC. Woodlief Thomas was my relative. He married Elizabeth Young and they had 8 children. When she died, he re-married Amanda Easterly and they had 3 boys. Please share any information you have on this branch of the Sheltons. Thanks, Ruth Burnette Huffine Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thanks for the confirmation on Flavious Josephus line. It is one more clue that the Sheltons in Perry County are interrelated. However, it doesn't clarify those families where paper trails have disappeared. This does take me back on your line to Thomas, who is brother to Charles and Mark Chilton of Pittsylvania and so an indication that your line is Chilton originally. It confirms that descendants of Thomas Chilton, along with those of brothers, Mark and Charles. and other interrelated families have migrated to the same general middle Tennessee area. If you have any other information on descendants of Thomas, esecially Bennett, that you are willing to share, I would appreciate it. Author: rkent Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.shelton/733.814.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Pat. Thank you so much for your reply. I do have some Dodson information in my database. I have Elias Dodson married to Mary Marshall, and I show Elias as the son of Joshua Dodson and Ann Nancy Chilton. I also have Flavious Josephus, but the information has been taken from online sources. Do you know if he is the son of G. Washington Shelton and Mary Fields. Also, going back another generation, is G. Washington the son of Bennett Chilton? The James you mention as the brother of Flavious Josephus would be from a different generation. I'm trying to identify an older James Shelton who was in Dickson Co., TN in 1820 at age 26-45 and then in Perry Co. in 1830 at age 50-60 and in 1840 still in Perry at age 60-70. I'm trying to identify the parents of Joel Shelton because the DNA of one of his descendants has tested to the Chilton surname. Both the Shelton and Chilton surnames were in Pittsylvania Co., VA in the late 1700's. Somehow, the Chilton name got changed to Shelton and has confused research. The early generation of Shelton/Chilton's in Perry Co. has been very difficult to clarify. The Chiltons and Dodsons in Pittsylvania were closely aligned. Anything else you might have would be greatly appreciated. Ruth Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: PatJohnson226 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.shelton/733.814.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Ruth, My line of Sheltons in Linden, Tennessee are from the family of Flavious Josephus Shelton and Lucy Dodson Shelton. James Shelton was a brother to our George Andrew and our line ended up in Oklahoma. The Sheltons had a family reunion in 1980 and many of the descendants were there for that in Linden. I have the pictures but we could not leave our business to attend. Our George Andrew was born in 1864 and your James was just younger, born in 1868. You probably already know that their parents' burial place was Chestnut Grove Cemetery but as far as I know, Flavious was born in Perry County while his wife, Lucy Ann came from Virginia. Her father was Elias Dodson and mother was Maria Marshall. According to information furnished by my uncle, the Sheltons came to Virginia in 1610 on the ship "Sea Venture" with Lord Delaware of the 2nd London Co. He believes the line extended back to the 2nd Lord of Shelton in England but I have very limited information on this. Has your family shared anything about the English connection?
