Author: gonein60sec Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.shelton/2318.2.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: If you go to my tree, the date I have is from the family data collection. I know the controvesy of the two Ralph's. If you go to this site http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~vapittsy/SheltonGen.html page 5. You will see the date of birth for the Ralph Shelton of King William County on the other side of Dragon Swamp. If they are indeed 15 years apart, this puts Ralph of middlesex birth around 1683. Yes, he was born probably in England. My tree is a work in progress and I am always trying to correct it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: HCS21 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.shelton/2318.2.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Terry, would you please be so kind as to share the source for the birth date for Ralph Shelton of Middlesex? All that I have been able to find is his "headright" record. On October 10, 1702, is recorded in Essex County, Va., Deeds & Wills, Book No. 10, 1699-1702, p.133, a record of Thomas Meriwether claiming land for having imported Ralph to the Colony of Virginia-- a "headright claim" but there is no record of an indenture. Meriwether's will is recorded in Essex Co, VA., Deeds and Wills Book No. 13, 1707-1711, on Jan. 7, 1708/09. Ralph Shelton is a witness so Ralph was an adult at the time he came to Virginia or at least of sufficient age to serve as a witness to a legal document five years after his arrival. I have never been able to find a source for the date of Ralph's birth so would appreciate very much if you would be so kind as to share this information. We descend through Rutherford Shelton b. 1795. There are branches who went to MO and WI. Rutherford Shelton married in Kentucky and emmigrated to Illinois around 1830. He had a son Rutherford F. Shelton and one of his son's LeRoy went to Wisconsin and I believe Eli and Elmer went to missouri and maybe even Charles. Rutherford F.'s son Samuel Rutherford Shelton is my 2nd great grandfather. My grandfather is still living and his DNA was tested which confirmed the Loci for the middlesex line. Terry my tree is on here, I can send you an invite.
