    2. Sheila, I know that there are a number of PRITCHETTs in the Cherokee rolls.? I just don't know how to connect Jesse PRITCHETT to them.? Apparently, Jesse knew about the Cherokee blood, but we don't have any proof of the connection.? I have never been able to understand the manner in which someone goes about researching this.? Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Dolores Shelton Davis -----Original Message----- From: Sheila Gibson <s2gibso@yahoo.com> To: shelton@rootsweb.com Sent: Sun, 28 Dec 2008 7:51 pm Subject: [SHELTON] Who are Spencer & Robert? Dear Dolores:? After reading your email I looked up "Pritchett" in my database and got a hit among the Cherokee Sheltons.? Eliza Pritchett married Charles (Charley) Proctor, son of Johnson Proctor & Lizzie Foreman.? Charley also married Louisa Townsend.? I don't have dates on either marriage.? The exciting news, however, is that Charley is the brother of Margarette Ta-ka-tan-nee Proctor who married Spencer Oo-lo-v-su-tu Shelton.? I don't have an exact birthdate for Charley; but his sister, Margarette, was born 1 May 1846.? I don't have any more on Eliza but with the Shelton/Cherokee connection it looks good.? Hope this helps.? Regards, Sheila ? P.S.? I'm working on some other replies in the scope of this discussion.? For now I'd like to take a moment to thank Hildred for her research on the Young family.? ALSO, a great big special thanks to our cousin in Norway, Duane Mills.? Your work in the Cherokee area has been such a valuable tool.? So good & so professional.? You are to be commended.? They (Elvira and Charlie)?were my grandparents.? The PRITCHETT name shows up many times on the Cherokee Rolls, but I don't know how to connect my PRITCHETT's with them.? We have a family tradition that they are, in fact, connected.? Susan Emma's parents were Jesse PRITCHETT and Mary W. LECROY.? I can't go any further back than that. I am wondering if this record is them, before marriage. "Salem Baptist Church was constituted into an independent body August, 1809 with thirty one members." Although....there is a younger Robert or Robin Shelton on the Cherokee Rolls who was born circa 1809..perhaps the son..if Rebecca's baby survived the Trail...or if they had an infant with them..since the baby died.? (please send me anything you have on Rebecca and baby on the Trail.) Remember the Stephen Shelton on the Rolls as well. Would be grand to find out these ancestral roots. Yesterday I posted a link to some photos of some of Spencer Shelton's Cherokee relatives along with some info identifying the relationships of the photos to Spencer.? Robert & Spencer both show up on early Cherokee records (before the Trail of Tears) and some of their descendants apparently stayed on because they show up later on in Oklahoma.? ? The big question, of course, is to which Shelton line do they belong?? My own opinion is based purely on speculation & circumstantial evidence.? How =0 D I would love to find one of the male Shelton descendants and request a dna sample.? Meanwhile, I put the question out to the forum to find out if anybody has yet uncovered any info telling us more.? I also wrote Cherokee Heritage thanking them for the photos.? They might know more since whomever shared the photos with them might also be Spencer's kin. ? 3. Hi! Searching volumes entitled The Hoosier Journal of Ancestry, Jackson County Special, yielded the following results: 1)page 58--Probate Order Book 1--1829-1838, page 326, Sat. 18 Sept. 1837 Sally Ann Shelton over 14 but under 21 chose Elizabeth Shelton as gnd. Sec. William D. Benton (328) same dated, Abraham Miller is appt. gdn. of Betsy Ann Shelton under 14 & daughter of Elizabeth Shelton. Sec. Christian Snyder. I am descended from Sarah Ann Shelton and David B. Rich. It appears that Sarah Ann Shelton has a sister named Elizabeth and a mother named Elizabeth. The speculation has been that her parents were Thomas Shelton and Mary Jameson. I guess it's possible that Mary Jameson had the name of Mary Elizabeth. I will have to check further on that. I have been fairly certain that Sarah had brothers named Eli, Caleb, Henly, and John. I have to suspect now that she had a brother named Thomas. I did find a marriage record for Thomas Shelton and Polly Naylor, 25 Dec. 1837, page 90. I suspect that this is Thomas Shelton Jr. I would be glad to correspond with anyone else researching these families. Robert Schneider

    2. Tina Hall
    3. I do have her in 1870. Couldn't locate her in 1880 or just gave up. Thanks for the info. I'll check when I get home.
