I am posting this message with the approval of the list administrator. Joyce Shelton McFarland My grandson is employed with a firm that trains troops for battle in Iraq. . He has a degree in law enforcement. On Tuesday the instructors and all of the troops that were there in Little Rock, AR in training went to New Orleans to help in the rescue. They had full body armor and were armed. On Wednesday they were able to rescue 80+ people and were shot at several times. My grandson said that they returned fire. He is a very kind hearted young man and told his mother he did not know if he hit anyone or not. On Thursday they were able to rescue 63 people and were only shot at 3 times. He was supposed to come home Saturday but this is Sunday and he is not home yet. To those of you who believe in prayer(and I do) when you are saying a prayer for all of the people that have been so damaged by the storm, please add the name of Dennis Dearen for safety to your list. Hi folks, While reading my e-mails I was reminded that today is the anniversary of an event in our lives that was devastating. 9-11 is now four years old, but we still remember the pain and agony that went with it. I lost nobody special to me, but that day was so life changing and eye opening. I just wanted to stop and take a moment to remember the folks who did lose a family member, and keep them in our prayers as well as those who were in the path of Hurricane Katrina and those who are down there to assist with the cleanup and rescue. Hey, Madolin! It's nice to hear from you, again. The web site's URL to join is here: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=D75896&special=true There are 3 different levels of the testing that can be done. With the first test, you may choose one of the following: 12 marker Y-DNA test @ $99 25 marker Y-DNA test @ $169 37 marker Y-DNA test @ $219 If cost is a factor in your choice, it's best to know that the tester need only donate once, and the upgrades can take place whenever you have the funds to do so. Starting with only a 12 marker test is fine, but with matches at 12, you will have to upgrade in order to know if you still match, and that isn't always the case. If you are expecting to match with some of the lines that have already participated, I would suggest starting with the 25 marker test. The tester submits a cheek swab for testing. The comparisons between all of the tests are where we get our information from as far as finding out how we match up to other people. This is difficult to put into words, but I will try. We all know that DNA is passed on from one generation to the next. What you might not understand is that the Y-DNA passed from male to male usually is the same and so the tests of a father and a son would probably match exactly. Every now and then a mutation occurs along a line, so that the next generation gets the mutated DNA and they now pass on a slightly different version of the original Y-DNA. This is why, after hundreds and hundreds of years, we can often assume a close relationship between one tester and another even without the genealogy to prove the link. This is why DNA testing is a useful tool in genealogy. It can confirm a link, but it's still up to you to do the footwork in order to find the missing links betweens two testers. Folks, Just as a reminder: When you have a problem with a post that comes to this list, write to me about it, not to the list. My address or that of any admin is the name of the list then [email protected], so please send your concerns regarding future posts to me at [email protected], and not directly to the list. It's just as inappropriate to clutter up the list with complaints as it is to post off-topic letters. I saw no need for any action on my part, since the poster indicated it was a mistake. There is no need of any further discussion about the post. happy hunting, Tina Hall [email protected] List Admin.: Byrd (Rootsweb), Shelton (Rootsweb), Diabetes (YahooGroups) KYGenWeb County Coordinator: Henderson county Tina's Family Genealogy Page: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~thall/ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "If you cannot get rid of the family skeleton, make it dance!" ~ George Bernard Shaw +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Wow, again. Another person advocating a boycott of gasoline. Make sure you remember to boycott all petroleum products, not just gasoline. Don't purchase products with petroleum in them. Oops, forgot, almost everything we use has a petroleum by product in it!!!!! What should we do now???????? Some folks are sooooo silly. Stick to genealogy, please.
I'm sorry, I mistakenly forwarded a non-related email to list.
IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES. AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES. THEREFORE SEPTEMBER 1st HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR BEHIND " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THESE TWO NATIONS SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY. THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT. WAITING ON THE GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO? REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE SEPTEMBER 1ST A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"
I am looking for any information on William Benjamin Shelton who was born Oct. 1879 in Graves County, KY. About 1918 he married Mary A. Frizzell and fathered two children in the 1920s, both born in Memphis, Tennessee. After visiting his newborn son in the hospital, he was never seen again. I cannot find him in the 1930 census, or on the KY death index or Social Security Death Index. If anyone on this list has been doing research on this family (He was the son of William Hartwell Shelton and Mary Thornbrough Shelton of Graves Co., KY), I would very much like to hear from you. Surnames: Shelton, Tuell, Dismore Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wNHBAIB/1692.3 Message Board Post: Hi! I know I'm a little late to this, but I'll give it a try. I have a 4th gr grandmother named Sarah Ann. We have always assumed that she had the maiden name of Tuell. We know have serious doubts about the name Tuell. It seems that in the 1850 Jackson County, IN census she lived next door to a man named Henly Shelton. Family lore, no records, indicate that Henly Shelton was her first husband. Her second husband was Nathaniel Dismore. There are records to back this marriage up. They show marriage between Nathaniel and Sarah Ann Shelton. Henly married his wife Rachel in 1834 in Jackson County and was till married to her in 1850. So the marriage to Sarah seems unlikely to say the least. On top of that, why would someone live next door to their ex spouse? Plus, Henly ended up following Sarah as she moved to Iowa. The two of them are buried in the same cemetery in Union County, Iowa. We suspect now that Henly and Sarah Ann were brother and sister. We've got two questions on Sarah Ann. How in the world did she get connected with this Tuell surname? (I have her death certificate and it doesn't mention Tuell.) What was her relation with the Shelton family? Below is my family page url: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/c/h/Robert-L-Schneider/index.html Thanks in advance! Robert Schneider Berkeley MO 63134
