    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Shelton Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wNHBAIB/2926 Message Board Post: DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA). This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s): Shelton, Miss Anne Shelton, Anne Morton Shelton, Bertha Eleanor Shelton, Miss There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message. If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/research/1929marshallite/1929marshallite1.html Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.html Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . . Susan :) Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.html

    1. Ida Belle Shelton
    2. Phil French
    3. I am somewhat confident that my great grandmother, Ida Belle Shelton, is descended from this same line but have found no concrete evidence. She married Leslie Lee Tirey on October 10, 1901. Perhaps you can help me in making this connection. Ida Belle was born September 26, 1883 and died December 18, 1961. She was born in Illinois and was the daughter of James B. Shelton and Minnie Francis Brelsford. James B. was born in Dayton, Ohio and died February 21, 1930. Hope you can help me. I have been to Rural Plains and Scotchtown as well as Red Hill. All of it was quite fascinating and educational. Phil French

I believe he may have had a second wife name Virginia. I'm searching for his parents. I believe he may be connected to Daniel Shelton who also moved from Va to Owen County, KY. Thanks, Paula

    2. Jan Lindley
    3. I went to the Jacksonville, GA site and took a look at the pictures. They were really great. The Sheltons shown on the site are from the line of Ralph of Middlesex. Charles Irby Shelton (b. Nov. 16, 1787, Pittsylvania Co., VA; d. July 19, 1871, Jacksonville, Telfair Co., GA) was the son of Crispen Shelton (b. Feb. 28, 1761; d. after 1805) and Susannah Irby. Crispen was the son of Abraham Shelton (b. ca 1737, VA; d. 1789, VA) and Chloe Robertson (b. ca 1739, Amelia Co., VA) and grandson of Crispen Shelton (b. Apr. 1, 1713, Middlesex Co., VA; d. Oct. 29, 1794, Pittsylvania Co., VA) and his wife Lettice Unknown. I am also descended from Crispen & Lettice through their son Lewis Shelton. So Charles Irby Shelton would have been a great-nephew of my ancestor, Lewis. Thanks for posting the link---it was very interesting. Happy New Year to all!!! 1. Lewis Shelton
    2. Jan Lindley
    3. If there are any more descendents of Lewis Shelton (s/o Crispen, grandson of Ralph) out there, you might find this interesting. I found it today. From "South Carolina Baptists" by Leah Townsend, "Anderson County Churches", p. 197: "A large group of Baptists collected about Shockley Ferry on Savannah River in Pendleton District sometime in the eighties, and at least by 1790 had been constituted a church of that name.* Garrett, 'Saluda Assoc., p. 14, gives the traditional date of constitution as 15 or 20 years before 1800; 'Asplund's Reg.' 1. and 3. ed., lists a church called Savannah River, Love's or Lover's Ferry, in Abbeville District, which was organized in 1790 and which had in that year 30 members, served by LEWIS SKELTON, an itinerant from a church at Pittsylvania, VA; and from entries in 'ibid', 5. and 6. ed., it appears that the above was meant for Shockley Ferry; the figures there given for 1790-4 are obviously erroneous; according statements in Mercer, 'GA Assoc.', p. 28, Shockley Ferry Church must have entered that association sometime between 1788 and 1792; no LEWIS SKELTON has been found, but a LEWIS SHELTON was living in 1790 (Census, p. 82) in Pendleton District with 4 slaves and there ! are references to a LEWIS SHELTON in Padgetts Creek CB (1804) and in Cedar Spring CB (1802)." I believe the first Lewis Shelton mentioned above (erroneously called Lewis Skelton) was Lewis, s/o of Crispen. The references to Lewis Shelton in connection with the Padgetts Creek and Cedar Springs churches probably refer to Lewis's son, Lewis Shelton, Jr. Lewis Sr. died in 1794 in Pendleton Dist., SC and his will is recorded in Anderson Co., SC. (I have a copy of this will if anyone is interested.) Lewis Shelton Sr. was my 5g-grandfather. Happy New Year to everyone. Jan in MO
