I need some assistance. If you know that your man lived in VA and owned land and you can tell me which parcels of land he owned, I will correct the background color to coincide with your group. I have done a few that I am already aware of. Let's work together to get the entire list color coded! Please respond to the list since that goes into a special folder for me, and won't get lost in the shuffle. Thanks! Tina Hall

I can't prove whether he was or not. 2nd: This is what I know about the SHELTON family in Iredell Co., NC. The Henry SHELTON who was in the War of 1812, I find with pay records in 1814 and it states he is from Iredell Co., NC. Also in Iredell Co., NC is a record of Guardians being appointed in 1811 for Charles Wesley SHELTON and Mary SHELTON who are listed as the orphans of Henry SHELTON. Their deceased father could NOT be the same Henry who was in the War of 1812. He was in the war during the time that Charles Wesley and Mary had guardians. Henry in the War could, however, be the son of the deceased Henry SHELTON. I don't know that, but it is possible. 2nd: The maiden name of the wife of Henry SHELTON of Lumpkin Co., GA is in dispute. Her first name is Matilda, but her maiden name may have been HAGOOD or it may be BRUCE. 3rd: Some maybes: The Henry SHELTON in Habersham Co., GA in 1840 might be the same Henry SHELTON in Lumpkin Co., GA in 1850, 1860, & 1870. The dates in Habersham don't match, but I'm not sure that means much. Another maybe: I have heard that some people think there was another son of Henry and Matilda, that we don't have listed. His name is sometimes listed as David and sometimes Richard. I have found no definite evidence of either. Anyone who thinks they know anything about this family or (these families), I would love to exchange info with you. Dolores

My G Grandfather, William appears to have gone on the orphan trains west to Missouri. I found him listed in the 1880 census there. He was listed as from orphan home or school. Are there any of those records available in the 1860's - 1870's ?

Also, if you find where he settled, you should check court records for declaration of intent and/or naturalization records that might provide information on his place of origin in Germany. If he was in the 1900 census there is a column there that would show when he emigrated as well as the year he was naturalized. Good luck

I have an Avy M. Shelton born 4/23/1838-1839 probably in Morgan Co., Illinois or Missouri, in my Shelton Line. My Avy M. Shelton is the daughter of Joseph Shelton, he was born about 1790-1796 in North Carolina and Mary "Polly" Cole born 3/6/1800 Washington Co., Virginia. This Shelton family were listed in the 1840 Morgan Co., Illinois census. They are listed in the 1850 Henderson Co., Texas census. I have connected this family to the DNA SH-72 on the Knights5 website, but still have no idea who Joseph Shelton's parents were. Please let me know if you have found new information on your Ava/Avey/Avarilla Shelton.

I would like to suggest to the SHELTON-L group & also the Knights5 group that when we refer to John Shelton, that has been referred to as (Cut-Off-John) we refer to him as John Shelton, son Ralph Shelton Jr. died 1789, son of Ralph Shelton Sr. died 1733. Hildred Shelton has researched this & says that this John does not deserve the label of ( Cut-Of-John). It would be a little more typing. Sally, no offence to you, but by doing this we can give John Shelton, son of Ralph Shelton Jr. died 1789, son of Ralph Shelton Sr. died 1733, the respect that he deserves. Walter Shelton Jr. SH-33

I am descended from their son Rice Duncan, I found a James Duncan in the 1790 Federal Census for Salisbury District, Stokes County, North Carolina with a family in the right age brackets.
