Glenn Alfred Shelton was a Major in the US Army and was in charge of Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. toward the end of his career. He was the only man to ever be in charge of the hospital who wasn't a doctor. He lived in Hot Springs, AR after he retired from the Army. He went back to the Hospital when he became ill with cancer and died there.

He was born ca 1856 and died in May 1895 in Lynchburg. His obituary appeared in the Lynchburg News page 3 on May 21, 1895. His address was 408 Pine St. I got a good bit of information on him but I can't find him in any census records. According to the marriage record, he married Emma Read 18 July 1883. He was listed as being from Amherst County, VA while Emma was listed as being from Bedford County, VA. I can find Emma with her mother Jinnie but not Robert. The additional information I found indicates his father is also Robert Shelton but the reader couldn't make out the mother's name (Oney?). I received this information from another source and cannot verify any of this myself. I would really like to find out the mother's name. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

It would sure help connect your family to the correct Virginia Shelton line. I know Dee Colvin suggested this in an earlier reply to you. I have Shelton family in Henderson Co., Texas who are connected to the Ralph Shelton family of Middlesex Co., Virginia. My Shelton family arrived in Henderson Co., Texas before 1850. Please do consider having the test or ask one of the other Shelton males of this line to consider the test.
