    1. [SHELTON] looking for some help with info in VA
    2. Tina Hall
    3. Hi everybody, I am looking to get as much information on the death of my cousin as I can get. His name was Thomas "Tommy" Shelton and he was born about 1952 and died in U S N Hospital, Portsmouth, VA on April 9th, 1970. He was injured at Camp LaJune in NC. I can locate nothing on him outside of the card I found in the Browning Genealogy database online. Can someone check on an obituary for me in VA? There may have been one in the Indiana papers, too. His parents lived in Evansville when Tommy died. Any help I can get would be appreciated. If anyone can get me an address on where I can send for hospital or obituary or ??? 3. Glenda, What is the DNA number that your line was given? My line is the maroon group, SH-80. My ggg -grandfather was Richard Shelton. Richard's wife was Frances Jones Barnett, the daughter of William Barnett and Frances Jones. The Barnetts settled in Leaksville, Rockingham Co.,NC, between 1803 and 1807 coming from Louisa County, Virginia. Richard Shelton was born Dec., 1779 in Louisa Co., VA. We do not know if he was raised there or the names of a set of parents but our research has led us to think the mother was Ann Winston the sister of Maj. Joseph Winston for whom Winston- Salem was named. Thank you. 1. [SHELTON] William Robert Shelton, Jr. of Rural Plains Obituary
    2. Hildred
    3. Most of the data collection on Shelton genealogy owned by William Robert Shelton, Jr., has been preserved in a collection which is open to the public and, if you are lucky, you may hear directly from the individual who supervised the placement of this resoure prior to Mr. Shelton's death. As to the "incredible wall hanging", I rather think you are referring to a reproduction of a chart from the book entitled THE SHELTONS OF ENGLAND AND AMERICA by Mildred Campbell Whitaker and, unfortunately, this book has long been discredited. The genealogy presentedby Mildred Campbell Whitaker for the Shelton line in America has been debunked so many times that, if one consults any of the standard genealogical indices in a good public library, one should have no trouble locating sources which explains the problem with Mrs. Whitaker's work. As a starting place, however, read the posting on this Mailing List entitled "DNA Results September 6, 2006" and look for the DNA tests for the "Rural Plains" Shelton line (Tests Numbered SH-4, SH-39 and SH-58) and the about 40 tests with the heading "Ralph Shelton Line from Middlesex, VA, Line (too many numbers to list). These DNA tests prove that the chart which Mrs. Whitaker constructed cannot be valid. Hildred
