I am looking for information on my GGGrandfather, John Shaw. I have his immigration info. He came to the U.S. from 'Great Britain' (which covers a lot of territory), leaving out of LIverpool on the ship Alfred. He arrived in NY on June 11, 1838. The rest of what I know is that he was a shoemaker and married a woman named Amy Cook. The next I know if him he was living in far Southwest Missouri with his daughter (my great-grandmother) Rachel Shaw Cole, who was born in Cincinnati in the mid 1850's. Family legend holds that he left Liverpool in a hurry after beating some fellow senseless, not sticking around to see if the fellow lived or died. I'm sure he was not the only young man ever to have left Liverpool a jump ahead of the constabulary, but I really would like to know where he came from and what brought him to Cincinatti. Is there anyone else on the list researching this individual? Kate Payne
