When I was preparing to go to Scotland without knowing where either of two lines had actually lived, I got some very good advice from a friend. Perhaps it will apply to others, regardless of where they are visiting: Don't attempt to "find" ancestors unless you already know their names and at least a few facts about them. Rather, just visit the place, relax, and "soak up" the culture and enjoy the current inhabitants. After you return and do more research, many things you saw will influence how you interpret your findings and if you return later with more information, you will already know some people, how they might react to your new knowledge, etc. Every trip will add to both your general AND specific knowledge. And, if it turns out you were in the wrong spot, you will still have enjoyed it and learned from it.
